We've got an '04 Freestar. Our latest issue is the plastic around the rear licence plate/handle area. We live in a cold winter climate and think the plastic has cracked in the elements. First there was one crack, now a second larger crack. Has anyone else had a simialr problem?
Same here. Live in Montreal but I never did anything about it.

my 05 has an electric door concern that worries me.. The side and rear doors would not work at all from inside outside or from the fob. this could bea safety concern. At the shop it started working again. "No trouble found..could not duplicate customer concern" The oil life function in the message center was inop from the start they changed the cluster and it still didnt work, we then found out that without traction control the feature was not on the vehicle. Owners manual does not specify that it is an option with trac control only!!
Best gas milage so far after 35000 miles is 19.2

The whistling noise could be the heater is not sealed properly and there is a "TSB' to repair it. the noise should stop when going to MAX A/C

I have had nothing but problems with my 2004 Ford Freestar. In the last three months It has been in the shop 6 times. They can't seem to figure out what the exact problem is because it has so many. Sometimes it won't back up, and it takes a while to get it to go into gear. Then it will start jerking, and die. When it does that it just keeps dying. I take it to the shop they think the have the problem fixed and in a week or so it happens again. I have been stranded on the road several times.

Thank goodness we had an extended warrenty, it would have cost us about $5,000 already.

It is also noisy, there is problems with the brakes, sometimes the passenger back door lock will not work, there is a thumping noise under the floor on the passenger side, sometimes the passenger front window does not work properly.

It is totally undependable. Is anybody else having these kinds of problems?

My check engine light and my ABS light on my 2006 Freestar keep coming on. I have taken it back to the ford shop a couple of times and it just comes back on. They told that they cannot find a problem and they "updated the computer"? Can I claim this car a lemon? I am very frustrated. Is there anyone who can help me?
I've had the same thing happen to me 4 times over the last 6 months. After the first 2 times, the dealer claimed it needed a new ABS sensor. They replaced it (under warranty) about 4 or 5 months ago, but it did it again in the last week. I'm taking it back to the dealer again on Wednesday for this problem, continuous brake and AC problems and the check tire pressure light. I'm not lying when I say I have to take my van in about every 3 months for a laundry list of things to be fixed.

I have a 2004 Ford Freestar Limited. It is by far the worst vehicle I've ever owned (this is my 5th, and probably last, Ford).

I'll try to remember to post here what the dealer proposes to do this time.

I work at a ford dealership, and one of the techs is working on a ford freestar. but the problem with the freestar the tech has never seen anything like it before. when it is warmed up whether its in reverse or drive, the whole engine shakes, like a chug almost, kinda like your going up on a roller coaster goin up the chain part how it tugs then lets off and then tugs again. still have yet to solve the problem, has anyone ever had this happen?

Well I almost got my van back from the dealer today.

The dealer said that I needed to have the tire pressure sensor recalibrated after having new tires put on (that's why I had the check tire pressure light on). She said it would also fix my ABS/Trac Cont OFF lights coming on. I picked up the van late in the afternoon and got almost home (about 20 mins) when I hear the familiar "DING". ABS/TC OFF lights are back on again. I immediately turned around and took it back just as they were closing for the day. Thankfully they still had my rental there and so I was able to drive the rental home tonight.

This is now the third time I've taken it to them for the ABS/Traction Control OFF light coming on. The first time they replaced the ABS sensor. This time they recalibrated the tire pressure sensor (LOL). Not sure what they'll do next - maybe flush the radiator!

They also replaced the AC blower for the second time today.

It's been in the shop at least 5 times for brake-related problems.

Just as a reminder, this is a 2004 Freestar Limited.

And my awesome extended warranty (note the e-sarcasm) still left me with a $300+ bill. Granted, without the warranty it would have been much worse. But still, what happened to the "it'll only cost you the $100 deductible"?

Even my wife is tired of this van now (hallelujah). I think we may be getting rid of it soon.

After 7 days in the shop this time, the verdict was a faulty wheel sensor. I don't plan on keeping this van long enough to find out if it really fixed the problem (ABS / Traction Control lights on). We're determining now what our next vehicle is going to be. One thing is for sure: it WON'T be another Ford.

I was buying a 2005 freestar, but it has gone back. I couldn't even get it traded off without losing money on it. But I am glad that it is gone. It is really sad that something could'nt be done about these vechiles. I don't know about all you but my trust and belief in Ford was really let down. I have even noticed that the messages I have left on this comment line are gone. I owned the vechile a year in July and it was in the shop 32 times. Sometimes for 2-3weeks, They had replaced the ecm 3 times they ran checks after checks to find the problems. The last time it had sensors going out causing the transmission to quit. The gas mileage was really bad, I could go on and on.............. So good luck to all of you. And Ford you really have let us down.

Found a few of my comments, so I will take that statement back about my comments being gone. By the way my van was silver and was put back into the sale arena again so if anyone just bought our is going to buy a silver 2005 freestar le be very careful cause it was the nightmare from hell. Good luck everyone.

Just traded mine in today for a new Rav4. Oh happy day!

This is really a shame, Ford, that my Freestar was so bad that I traded it in while it still warranty left on it. I figured I better trade it in now while it still was worth something.

Hi there, just curious whats wrong with your bearings? My '04 Freestar SEL has a loud noise from the front end, almost a grinding sound that gets louder with speed and when slower sounds like a woop woop woop sound. Dealership said its the tires. I put my winter tires on just as a test and sound was still there. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

We have on 07 Freestar with only 7,000 miles and we have a short grinding noise under the hood everytime it is started up and sometimes while in drive the van jerks, the traction control light comes on and I have to restart it. Once it is restarted, the gas gauge moves up, telling me I have more gas than I really do. I don't feel safe in this van at all, especially with my precious cargo of 2 kids in it with me. I DO NOT like this van at all!! Want to trade it in, but we would be out about 10 grand. What a shame.

I traded my 07 Freestar Limited in this weekend for a new 08 Grand Caravan SXT. Trade in value was next to nothing since the Freestars are so horrible! I took it to Ford to get it appraised first and they just laughed at me when I told them what was going on. Even the Ford dealer told me they were pieces of crap! I LOVE my new Grand Caravan! Is definitely a huge improvement from the Freestar. Don't waste your time with the Ford!

Unfortunately I am the proud owner of a 2004 Free Star SEL van with a transmission that is shot at 80,000 miles, brakes that had warped rotors at 400 miles, a timing chain that is going out and a vehicle that I am unable to drive not to mention I still owe two years payments to Ford Motor Credit. I have written to Ford Pres. & CEO three times which I am sure to due blocked Custer Service managers he has never seen. After inspected by a Ford dealer Kath Richardson (Ford Customer Service Mgr.)the nerve to tell me the transmission failed due to dirty fluid! Ford has no intention of recalling these vehicles for they have done this to their customers for over ten yrs. the Taurus, Areo Star, Wind Star and now the Free Star. Their resolve is to forget about it and cease making that model! I truly wish all the poor unfortunate folks who have these same type of problems could somehow Ban together build a network and sue Ford as well as include the Media on a National Basis to force Ford to help so many people that don't have funds to repair their Vehicle! If someone out there could organize this movement I would do whatever I can to help so many folks who have suffered. There should also be damages filed for the grief and inconvenience cause so many previous Ford customers. Ron MacGregor, Dawsonville, GA.
