I own a 2005 Freestar Limited. The heating/air conditioner system often turns itself off when starting the car up! I have complained many times and they finally replaced the control system on the dash, but it just did it again today! It is winter time and after driving about 5 minutes and it is colder inside than it is outside - you know something is wrong! It is such a pain to have to reset all the heating settings for the driver, the passenger, and the rear ... has anyone had this happen?

I have had MULTIPLE Advancetrac problems with a 2005 Expedition & a 2007 Expedition EL. Advancetrac comes on at slow speeds on dry pavement.I am fed up!It is dangerous! My local dealer says Ford told them I am the only one!

Hi, I bought a 2006 Freestar Sport two months ago, I gave up my 04 F-150 Lariat, big mistake! I have had the same problem you are describing at about 2000km, but it went away when I disengaged the Advancetrac, so I shut it off and the next day it worked fine and has since. I have a piece of molding on the winshield that keeps flapping and I have a hole in the compartment that holds the folded seat. It gets very wet in any rainstorm. On the plus side I drove the van from the Maritimes to Toronto to move my son home and it got great mileage, almost 900km on a tank. It also had plenty of passing power. I had a 2000 Winstar SEL loaded, and all I can say is that Ford should get out of the mini-van business and stick to what they know -TRUCKS!

I have a 2004 Freestar, and have had a continous water leak in the rear hatch area. It took until after 12,000 miles to find because I had put down a plactic mat to protect the carpet in the back, Ford has tried to fix it 5 times, still no luck. I have owned many fords, and this is by far the worst car. In addition to the water leak, all the door lock motors have had to be replaced, plastic pieces have fallen off and needed to be fixed. The rear insert around the licence plate cracked, the hub caps are warped, it is difficult for the kids to get in and out of the way back, and it is a very noisy car. This is the worst car I have ever owned.
I was wondering what happened when you took it in. The insert around my license plate is cracked and they blew me off and didn't do anything about it. I was wondering if your van has any black trim at the bottom. My grill trim, rear trim, and trim at the lowest point around the sides of the van is severely faded. I have had no luck with the dealership. Have you had this problem?

We've got an '04 Freestar. Our latest issue is the plastic around the rear licence plate/handle area. We live in a cold winter climate and think the plastic has cracked in the elements. First there was one crack, now a second larger crack. Has anyone else had a simialr problem?
yes, I have had the same cracking appear. We live in the south, so it is not the cold climate. I took it into the dealership and they blew me off. Ford has poor service dept.s

We have a Freestar 2005 SE and we are still having a problem of noise with the break sometime on the highway.

But another problem which is more annoying is the sensibility to humid condition. When it is around the freezing point or with high humidity / rain sometime the motor is shaking anormaly (looks like a piston is not working). I'm in Quebec/Canada so this type of condition is usual. It happens when we start the vehicule and for a couple of minutes (until warn). Sometime the engine light flashes or stays on until we restart the vehicule. This problem has always been there and the dealer don't know the trouble source. I'm suspecting something with the electric components (wires, spark plugs, distributor, etc.) but they seem in good shape... Maybe the original stuff is so cheap...

I would like to know if somebody else experienced this with his Freestar?

I bought a 2005 Freestar in Sept 2005, only 18 miles on it. I noticed a slight metalic rattling noise coming from the front when going over speed bumps which has gradually gotten worse. I finally had the dealer check it out and they said the anti rattle clips were missing and wanted to know who had serviced the brakes, since the pads looked brand new and it had 35000 miles on it. No one had serviced the brakes, so apparently they sold me the car with the anti rattle clips missing.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Was the clip missing from the new pads you bought or from the old pads?

Sorry to hear you've got the same trouble. People don't seem to believe the cracks just showed up. Is there anyone else out there with the same problem - cracks appear in the licence plate insert/area surrounding the licence plate?

I own 2 ford freestars: 2004, 2005. Both make a rubbing noise in the left front disc pad or rotor while braking at low speeds. No other wheels make the noise. The vehicles brake smoothly but the noise is terribly annoying. The 2004 has 16k miles on it while the 2005 has 31k miles. Both have a good bit of pad left. What gives?

Thank you to each and every one of you who has posted about Rear Brake issues!

We have had no luck getting a noisy rear brake issue resolved with our selling dealer after three visits. A visual inspection on the rear brakes by myself the other day revealed obvious uneven pad wear, and heavy scoring of the inside of the driver's rear rotor, all symptoms pointing to caliper seizing. The good news, however, is after reading on this site, and doing a little more research, I have successfully lobbied another dealer to replace the rear calipers, pads, and rotors under warranty! Don'tcha just love the internet!?!

Hope this post helps someone else with the same problem.

We bought an 04 Freestar Ltd. with 9,000km on it and have had good luck with it so far. The fuel economy could be better and the advance trac light comes on. All we did was park the car, turn it off and let it reset and we proceeded with no problem. The brake pads are hard and will squeek when cold. Softer pads are quieter but wear out sooner.

My father just purchased a 2007 Freestar limited. when he puts a DVD in the rear entertainment system it plays but there is no sound from the speakers. when you use the headphones you can hear throught the headphones. Ford checked it all out and in the end told him Ford changed that in 07 as a safety feature so it would distract the driver to hear the movie playing through the speakers. Does this sound right to anyone? Or has anyone heard of this this??

Thanks

we have a 2004 ford freestar that we bought new. we have had it in the shop 4 times now since owning it. the first time the alternator was blown and we had to wait almost 2 weeks to get it back from ford because no one sold an alternator for it. and the other 3 times the van has just died out on the road but will start again after about an hour of sitting, ford keeps saying they cannot find the problem. we also have that same rubing sound that other people are complaining of it has a high pitch squeal and is driving me crazy!!

I have seen this problem with our trucks. There is a cab filter (filters the air before it goes through the heating and cooling system) and when it gets dirty the air flow is restricted and has caused the blower motor to overheat, which caused them to shutoff. SOLUTION = change the filter

We have purchased a 06 Mercury Monterey in Feb. 07, and we have the problem with water in the rear seat well. Found that out today.
I would like to make a comment here. I work for the State of South Dakota as a mechanic and every year the State purchases many vehicles (cars, pickups & vans). They all have to go through our shop for our Region. Just this last year in our Region (corner of the state) we recieved 32 new vehicles of different brands, depends on who got the lowest bid. The point I want to make is that ALL MAKES have there problems, NOT just one. And dealers of ALL makes can be hard to work with there are problems like mentioned above for any brand.

I have a 2005 SEL W/40k. I will be taking it to the dealer because of 3 issues. 1)Humming noise @ 55mph-65mph 2)Popping noise when turning 3)Noise coming fromt he pulley system. Haven't noticed any water leaks yet but will check it out.
I've got a 2005 Freestar with 40,000 miles. It just started emitting a rumbling / humming sound that appears to be coming from the front driver's side wheel. I removed all four wheels and the brakes have plenty of pad left. I saw nothing wrong, but my driver's side rear rotor is scored - even with plenty of pad remaining. Any idea what causes the rumbling noise from the front end?

I've got a 2005 Freestar with 40,000 miles. Recently it began emitting a rumbling / growling noise at 45 - 60 mph that seems to be coming from the front-left wheel. The tire looks ok - no bulges or uneven wear. The brakes have plenty of pad left on them. The rotors aren't scored. Any idea where the rumbling noise is coming from?
