For weeks gas prices have been soaring to record heights. Now auto dealers in the Grand Rapids area say those high gas prices are hurting sales of big vehicles.

My husband and I feel that there are enough Congressmen and Senators, along with the President, that could put their foot down, when it comes to these ridiculas gas prices, and tell the oil companies, "Enough is enough. We want people to be able to travel, go on vacations, and go to work, without fear of running out of gas, or money because of paying questionable prices at the pumps. The choice may come down to food, or gas, vacations or stay at home, which will not help the economy one bit.

I bought a motorcycle that gets 45+ miles to the gallon. it cost me about $75 a week to go just to work in my car and over $100 in my truck now cost me $14 on my bike.

I already have an Escort, but your Cavalier’s value should be appreciating weekly. Someone doubling their mileage from Greenville to GR going from 15 to 30mpg would save $7.60 per day on gas alone. That’s about $165/month in savings. Whoa, eh?

Yup. You’ll be vacationing this year, maybe a trip to Holland for the Tulip Festival?

P.S. The thirsty Mustang just sucked up $42 at the pump. Maybe I'll be driving the Escort to Holland this weekend.

There is plenty the govement could do. They just refuse as most of them including Bush make money off of the oas and oil prices.
Get a moped or motorcycle and you will save money on gas now but thats one cold ride in the winter.

Read the other article about the Grand Rapids Police Departments stepping up patrolling, these two have a lot in common.
If we would just slow down and take life a little easier and drive like we really care about others. It might save some gas, going over the speed limit and driving like maniacs will not do it.
I guess what I am trying to say is, it is not just smaller cars, it is our way of life when it comes to driving that should change also. Take the darn cell phone away from your ears, put down the sandwich, share a ride with another person once in a while and drive the speed limit you just might save a few gallons of gas.
Get real people...God Bless America.

Again, it is not just the politicians, it is the law of supply and demand, we are only 40% of the worlds population and yet we use around 60% of the total oil supplies in the WORLD.
Alaska is also running out of oil, right now today the Alaskan Pipeline is only running or operating at 60% of capacity because of lack of oil. What next, the liberals and environmentalist will not allow us to drill for new oil in Alaska, or off seas, and will not permit any new building of Nuclear reactors, just where are we suppose to get the oil, guess Saudi Arabia or Iran, Iraq..etc. Wake up, do you drive the speed limit or share a ride with anyone to go to work or shopping.
Do you ride a bike or walk when you can, or do you use a car for short walks. We all need to change our way of life a little, but we won't, bigger and faster is better.
Remember, oil is a natural resource, it is not man made and it is in limited supply that is not being found as of today. Alternative Energy and change in life style is necessary.
God Bless America.

I've got an SUV...and it is paid for. So it will take gas going up a lot more before it makes sense to trade it in for a more fuel efficient vehicle...and to gain a car payment again.

Supply and demand aside, the largest contributor to the rise in fuel prices is the wall street speculator. His mood determines what we pay today for fuel we won't even see for months. If he suspects trouble in a country that supplies fuel to us, he'll jack the price per barrel. It doesn't matter if something actually happens or not. Once the price has been forcast, it isn't lowered as a result of the non-situation.

I have 2 that are paid for, but, in July, I bought an Expedition to tow our "hotel on wheels". The one I used to drive to work is under the weather right now. 2 weeks ago, it cost me $85 to fill up the Expedition. I nearly had heart failure. The pump shut off at $75. I really like the vehicle and have 25 more payments left. It doesn't seem like a wise move to try to sell it even if I wanted to. I will continue to drive easy and "suck it up".

Whats really sick is that OPEC companies can report billions of dollars in profits and we are the ones suffering..The government only steps in when they feel politically obligated to show the Americans why they get paid so much..

Why do the gas prices differ from city to city, even at the same gas company station ??? I recently filled up here at Speedway here in Kentwood at $3.68 a gallon and when I arrived on vacation for the weeekend in Grayling, Mi. gas at Speedway was $3.48 a gallon. That was a 20 cent difference from city to city. I certainly gased my vehicle up all the way before I left Grayling !!!!!

Baruch, would you PLEASE get your population figures straight for once! The inaccuracies you continue to post REALLY diminish your credibility. If you continue to post wildly inaccurate population percentages, who can we possibly believe that anything else you post is even remotely accurate.
