Well guess what you entered the pissing match. You are clueless about everything you just posted. Mercury is not influenced by Mazda by any means. Ford does owns a 50% share of Mazda but the Tracer and Escort you mentioned is no longer in production, the Escort ended production in 03. Does the Grand Marquis look like any Mazda you have ever seen. How about the Mountaineer, Mariner or Sable??. They don't look like Mazda's to me. It is more like Mazda's are influenced by Ford. Have you seen the Tribute lately??. It is a Escape with a Mazda badge. How about the Mazda pickup. Looks like a Ford Ranger to me. Come back when you can add some facts to the argument.. |

Wow. Want to see how neat it is to be able to comment with facts instead of emotion?
"The Mercury Mariner compact SUV was introduced in 2005. It is a sibling of the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape, although it is slightly more upmarket than the other two. The Mazda Tribute (Code J14) is a compact made by Japanese automaker Mazda since 2001. It is jointly developed with Ford Motor Company and based on the front-wheel drive Mazda 626 platform, which is in turn the basis for the similar Ford Escape on the CD2 platform. The Tribute is priced below the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner in Ford's CD2 SUV lineup." Just to make sure I highlight a fact for you: "...based on the front wheel drive Mazda 626 platform..." So. I'll grant you that the grand marquis couldnt be compared to any mazda, but your narrow minded view of the big three has blinded you to the fact that there is *no* more "purely American" big three. Your sable is now powered by duratec/cyclone badged engines which gained variable valve timing and other mazda engineered items. No really, tell me how I don't know my stuff. It makes you look... hateful. Come back when you're ready to drop the high school brand loyalty "my school is better than yours" BS and we'll have a fruitful discussion ok?

Wow You really know your stuff. You read this off of Wikipedia. So you really do not know your stuff. Did you copy and paste your way through high school??. Ford owns Mazda has has kept them alive by rebadging thier cars and trucks for almost two decades for awhile you could not tell the Navajo from a explorer or Ranger from Mazda B series. It is more like Ford has influenced Mazda. There are a few joint ventures with Ford and Mazda with frame a engine development, I think everyone knew that when they bought the failing Mazda company. So now tell me how does this make Ford a Japanese company??. Last I checked they are building the Escape right here in the states. Ford is paying healthcare a pension funds is Toyota and Honda?? NO maybe a few health care plan but not to the thousand of temp employees they hire and fire...So again keep buying your foreign Toyota that takes the money and runs. Also take notice where Mazda ranks on the JD powers list. Yep the bottom..I guess this says something about Ford and Mazda..

One aspect of buying cars from non USA companies is the PROFIT from the sales.
There are lots of people in the USA who are retired or counting on GM stock prices. When you buy from other than USA companies the profit from sale goes away. If you think for 1 second it don't matter YOUR WRONG!! |
Lots of nice comments - but the sad truth is that people buy whatever is cheapest, regardless of country of origin. (What have you bought from Sam's or Walmart lately) Nothing that is produced in the USA can compete anymore. The biggest expense is labor, and we are hear of union strikes everyday. Also, some politians want to raise the minimum wage.
Speaking about Walmart and Sam's, didn't they have that big push a few years back about all the things they sold that were made in the US? Try buying something there now that was made in this country. GOOD LUCK! |

I'm reading some of the comments here and It really is funny to listen to the wackos that call Toyotas American because they ar emade here, it's BULL! Where do the profits go when you buy a NEW Toyota, Answer: JAPAN.
So what if Ford builds a few cars in Mexico or Canada, Ford has a completely DIFFERENT lineup of cars they sell overseas that you have never heard about before. They have a car called the Falcon in Australia, they have a Euro-version of the Focus, and they also sell a car overseas called the Mondeo, they also USED to make cars like the Escort RS Cosworth and Laser overseas, and sold overseas, so? Does that make Ford (in general) a Foreign company?? NO! Because it's based in the USA! Same story with Chrysler and General Motors. PS-Mazda doing well benefits Ford anyway, I would rather have a Mazda than a Shityota. So do NOT call Toyota American because it is FAR from that!!! Get it??? |
Toyota's and Honda's are not cheap and now toyota is raising all the prices on thier cars. Not to mention what the service bills are. They are not even UAW.. So where are the savings for cheaper labor going..Right back to Japan.. |
I love it when people say Toyota's are made here and Ford's are made in Mexico. It is just the ill informed that don't know the facts. Ford does build a couple of US models in Mexico, but what most don't know is that they build a entire line up of cars in Mexico that some have never seen or heard of. Models like the Courier, the Fiesta, The Transit, the KA, The Eco sport. Not to mention that the US models here are completely different that the models in Mexico. The Focus is the older US version and the F 150 is still the old US model from the 90's. If you want a US Ford F-150 in Mexico it is called the LOBO. Ford and GM build cars in Mexico because they sell cars in Mexico. People are much happier buying a buying a Pris made in Japan just like the Camry Yaris and all the Hybrids and what ever crap they build over there and import in and say they built here. People actually are enjoying American jobs going overseas, they don't care until it hits them. Japan and China are just getting richer and richer while people are losing everything here. But Toyota is good for America right..People forget that Ford has built cars here for 100 years and has employed millions of people and families with good jobs. Jobs you could retire from and have a pension and few bucks in your pocket when you got old. Toyota Temp jobs are much better and not to mention that the full times, when the get hurt from the hard labor, they get thier walking papers. Not to mention no bennies or pension. These are great jobs huh??. I sat and watched a movie the other morning. It was Cinderella man. I have seen it a couple of other times but this time I looked at it different. I noticed what people had to go through in the early 20's and 30's. Men and women knew the value of a penny and seen hard times that most of us today could not survive. I mean really, people today standing in lines at Christmas for a Wii and getting into fist fights because thier little Timmy has to have the Wii for Christmas. And how about 10 year olds walking around with cell phones and $250 dollar outfits crying they don't have enough. It is a joke. Kids today don't even have jobs, they sit in thier rooms playing video games. I know so many buisness owners that complain to me that they cannot get help with summer jobs because kids won't work. They have to get foreigners from Russia and Ireland to fill their positions and once they come they want to stay, so now we are burdened with more illegal aliens. It is joke. Kids today aswell as thier parents have no idea of hard times and they never been hungry or had to fight for anything, they have no idea of American pride. So keep on buying them Toyota's and all your Wal-Mart crap. Because this country is going down the toilet. Japan, China and the Middle East have us right where they want us. Get ready for the take over, it is slowly happening.. |
You mean Toyota doesn't make cars in the US? Then what are those people working on the assembly line doing all day? LOL You are so out of touch it's disgusting. |
If you're that concerned about consumers buying products that help other foreign countries than stop shopping. Most things purchased nowdays are made overseas. I bet that computer you're using was made in China as is probably 75% of the durable goods you purchase. I would check if I were you on how much of your "American" car was made in the US. I bet you'll find items on that car that were made outside the US. If consumers stopped purchasing goods made in China we could shut down there whole economy. |
Ok...ok... I get it now. This isn't a car vs car thing... this is a Union beef. We need to have this discussion in another 50 years whem the major unions like the UAW and the Teamsters have unfortunately been broken. Stay safe. PS I *still want a new ranger with a diesel. |
What does a Veterinarian have to do with this discussion? mooo eat moor chikin |
Actually I got the majority of it from the Detroit News archives. Good stuff. I never said that the big three were japanese companies. I did say that they **ALL** had relations with Foriegn companies. Perhaps you should attempt to put your emotions aside when your typing. Its now obvious that your a Union guy and thats ok. But some of us realized long ago that to expect and/or depend on your boss or your government to take care of you when you retire is the surest path to poverty. Personally, if my job doesn't pay into a pension for me in any way shape or form (outright pay, matching funds, etc.) I take care of that myself. I'll be around when Social Security breaks, but I wont starve. My old man wont either because he's the last of a dying breed: people who work at a job for 30+ years and retire. This isnt 1958 anymore. US automakers dont strictly make all pureblood american cars anymore. There are plants in mexico, canada, and all over the world for US cars, and not just for Ford. Get over it. PS still wanting my ranger with a diesel if anyone upstairs at the plant is reading this. |

I agree, we had one and by mistake we thought small truck - easier on the gas, boy were we wrong. I full grown explorere gets better milage than the ranger we had. |
See this is what I am talking about. Stupid people. You just cannot get through to some, they are too far gone. |
It has everything to do with the union. Toyota has a full advantage over the US car makers. Do you think for one minute that if Ford and Gm had no union that there would be cars made in Mexico?? or any other country at that?? no way especially with the weak dollar. It is very easy for Toyota to set up shop in some of the poorest reagions in the US. They go into areas where poeople are poor and any half decent job is with open arms. These people are affraid of the union and are threatened with by Toyota not to sign or else. We will see how long Toyota last when the UAW breaks down the doors and let me tell you it will happen. |
I do stop shopping. I also do some research on things before I buy them. I know there are some things you cannot avoid, but if you relize that 80% of the companies in China are US companies. In the end you are still supporting US companies, we are just getting shafted on the manufacturing. And you can thank the government and OSHA for making it near impossible to do manufacturing in this country. Toyota comes in and gets the tax breaks. It is also funny that Toyota looks for Union builders to build thier plants. Because they want quality builders, but they run from the union to pay thier employees. Maybe that is why thier quality and reputation is fading away.. |
I did forget to add that I do wish Ford and Gm could break the Union. It could take the handcuffs off and they could start putting some profit in the company. Ford would still be a better emloyer than Toyota or Honda..Ask any Honda or Toyota employee who he or she would rather work for. |
