The woman in this article is my sister....its amazing what she was put through to get this resolved.Its a shame it took reporters calling them to do anything....Everything is fixed now besides the fines...which are "on hold"....Ill believe that when I see it!!! The tollway told her many times that it was resolved!!!

The tollway is such a rip-off! Like they don't have enough money flowing thru day-after-day thru those tolls.....especially after they raised them a few years ago!
Whatever happened to the promise of working to get rid of them?!
I guess they need all that money to keep that lavish building in Downers Grove going.

funny thing is-we have the worst roads in america-and we get ripped off to drive on them-did you ever go to wisc.-as soon as you get there they screw you for more than 80-cents to leave this crooked state-that is againsy the law isn't it-the tolls are 80-cents-what a system they have-now over-charging people for there mistakes-sue them HARD'''

It's not unusual that things like that occur. Those cameras malfunction all the time. I have gone through unmanned tools with my I-pass and it will not register at times and does so at others. They need to own up to the mistake and wave her fines all together.

I have just got a letter saying I owe $989 in fines. Apparently my IPASS was not auto replenishing for the past 12 months (due to me getting a new debit card -- in which I forgot to transfer the new card # to the auto-replensish account) AND NOW I FINALLY GET A LETTER 12 months later.......how can this be fair ? I'm willing to pay some of these fines...but it seems they "posture themselves and WAIT" until the bill gets big...like mine.
IS THERE ANYWAY TO LEGALLY CUT THESE FEES? THAT IS TOTALLY UNFAIR THAT THEY WAITED 12 MONTHS LATER TO SEND ME A LETTER OF THESE FINES. I'M SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS THESE ISSUES....
P.S. IS THERE A LAWYER I CAN CALL...OR A LOOP HOLE TO STAND ON.

Chris Chris... There is a woman at the joliet Herald they call "the fixer" you should right to her column and tell her your story, she would make any calls you would need to be made!!! Shes good at dealing with tough ones like that!

Just call them and if you had an IPASS account at the time of the violoations, they will remove the fines.

This is not a first by any means. When I was a City Administrator in central Wisconsin, I got a letter from the Illinois Tollway with fines for going through without paying tolls. The license plate that the violation was against belonged to a fire truck that never had been to Illinois nor anywhere near a toll booth. They also sent a picture of the plate and said it was a picture of the front of the vehicle. Well, our fire trucks only had license plates on the back.
So the Illinois Tollway apparently thinks that a rural Wisconsin fire truck drove 150 miles to a tollbooth and then went through backwards without paying. Actually, that was beyond even their irrationality and they dropped the violation when I sent pictures showing that the front had to plates. I really wanted to go to a hearing and watch them try to justify the ticket.

It seems like they are preying on people and goes for the kill with a big fine. What kind of system do they have? They have paid millions of dollars to computerized the system, yet a simple mail to remind the citizens could not be done on a timely manner? What a scam!!! If anyone knows the number of the TV station who can do the investigative reporting on this, or if someone can get the investigative reporters open up this investigation, I am sure that the IDOT will be forced to look at their system and not penalized the poor innocent IPASS holders of their innocent mistakes.

I agree with Manny, The Toll Road Authority is so messed up and need to be under some kind of investigation,I myself recieved a notice that I owed $62.00 and the first notice I recieved was of that telling me I owe.

The same thing happen to me but my fine is not as big, I called their office in Downers GROVE AND HAVE A HEARING ON THE 29TH .mAYBE EVEYONE SHOULD GO OUT THERE AND PROTEST IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING.

I have an update here....I called the Illinois Tollway (from the advice of my attorney) and THEY WAVED THE FINES...because I had an IPASS Account. If you don't have an IPASS Account....your screwed. The operator Linda said 1 in 10 people don't have an account (when they call to complain) in which 1 in 10 will have to pay the fines.
P.S. If you are one of the unlucky ones who don't have an IPASS account, you will have to pay the fine...or the state will SUSPEND YOUR LICENSE.
