I have a 2004 F-150 with 60,000 miles. My rear brake pads were almost worn down but my front brake pads had about half of the pad left. Has anypne else had a problem with the rear pads wearing out first?

I've got the same problem but at 40,000 miles. Only thing I've been able to surmize is that it may have something to do with the emergency brake or the tension on the cable. No body's been able to give me a good explanation yet.
You should normally go thru two sets of front brake pads before the rears wear out.

I'm in Canada and my 2004 f150 has only 35,000 kms on it and the rear brakes are completely gone while the front ones are fine. I think the premature wear is due to the parking brake cable problem that was fixed a while ago but under normal use, there is no way the rear brakes should wear out before the front ones.

Listen very carefully my friends. Do not, no matter how tempting it may be, ever use your emergency brake. It won't release properly and and after a few miles when the pads have reached the approximate temperature of the sun going super nova, the truck will heave like a sick mule. You will then have to resist the urge to beat your wife into submission for having set it after you,ve repeatedly begged her not to. I know I deserve this for letting her drive my truck but I'm just an old softy.

Want to know how much worse MPG will get if I put 33" tires on my 04 FX4 5.4.
Also, can I get away with just putting on a 2 1/2" or 3" leveling kit to fit these????????

The fronts are shot on my 04 f150, backs are about half... seems like all of the breaking is done with the fronts... and i hate the brake dust, I thouhgt that the E-brake was a drum style inside the back of the rotor? is there any way to adjsut the rear (disk) brakes to grab harder, to even out the wear, front to back? thanks guys!

My 2005 F150 is having new rear brakes put on for the first time, and the front are 60% worn. I have 28,000 miles on the truck, but I do drive it a little hard sometimes. Told by my service manager who I have known a long time and trust that the rear brakes on the F150s are supppose to wear faster, it has something to do with having more control of the vehicle and it was desigined for that.

I had the same problem with my 2005 f150 4x4.
Front pads still had pad left. Back pads started to grind. Whats up with that? Thought back pads were only 20% of ur stopping.
Also, How the heck do you remove the rear rotors?
Fronts came right off. Back rotors wont budge. Is this due to the emergency brake hold it on somehow?

I just wanted to try to clear up a little bit of this. First The myth that you should use 2 sets on the front vs 1 set on the back only aplies if you have a truck that is equipped with drum brakes on the back.a couple of things come in to play,so i dont feel like it is fair to compare post to post condiming 2004 brakes.if you live in a rural area and pull a trailer very much, you will see more wear on the rear.if you live in a heavyily populated area you will most likly see more wear on the front from using more braking on the front of the truck. the ratio is 70 % on the front and 30% on the rear. rear disc are not naer as robust as the old rear drum brakes,so yes they will wear lots more premature than the old drum brakes, but a lot more even response in braking.I think we all were just use to getting 2 sets out of the front to 1 set on the back for years and that what we were a custom too. hope this helps.

I have a 2005 F150, at about 52000 the rear went out, I replaced all the brakes on the truck, I am at 83000 and the rear brakes are low again, not grinding but low, and the fronts have at least 75% left on them. I thought this was weird too, so I began searching, if and when I locate something I will post here.

Bottom line...ford sucks. too much affirmative action hiring. I have the same brake problem on both my f150 and explorer (both 2005). both less than 30, 000 miles and ford wants me to put on new rotors on both! screw this! when are the iraqi's going to strat buliding cars and flood our market..I am ready to buy. If jap car owners can buy that after pearl harbor i can buy iraqi after rebuilding their nation

I've got a 2005 F150 and the parking brake has seized twice on the truck. Both times rear brakes and rotors have had to be replaced. Ford covered it the first time, but are now only covering 75% of the cost the second time. I have only had the truck for 2 years and I am just barely outside of the mileage on the warranty, but somehow I still have to pay 25% of the cost for a repeat failure on a defective product that they supposedly already fixed! NEVER PUT THE PARKING BRAKE ON!

Maybe the truck should have been engineered so the parking brake worked as specified. Its not your wifes fault for using something that we all learned to use in driving school every day. The e-brake is there for a reason - is it more tempting to park on a steep hill without using it?

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Virgo

It's okay to have high expectations, but try to keep in mind that no one can be all things to all people. As the Moon spends one last day in its current sign, it urges you to find a way to recognize others for their strengths, and forgive them their weaknesses. Virgoans' idiosyncrasies must look like strange quirks from the outside as well! Fate ties up the loose ends towards the end of the day.
