Knollenberg, Stabenow work to end artificially weakened yen June 27, 2007
By TODD SPANGLER
FREE PRESS WASHINGTON STAFF
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg today introduced legislation he says will push the Japanese government to end “the manipulation and severe misalignment of its currency,” weakening the yen to the point where it essentially provides billions of dollars in export subsidies to Japanese automakers.
Knollenberg, an Oakland County Republican, said Japan has spent more than $400 billion over the last six years to artificially weaken its currency. That means automakers

American cars shot after 5-6 years? yeah right. My 13 year old Mercury Cougar with 145,000 miles still works perfectly, in the 7 years I have owned it I had to replace the front springs and a ball joint(total about $145 CDN)

Rob forget joe b, hes no american. he wishes to be a lame ass rice burner. We will see who makes the most quality cars in the future. Ford and Gm are only getting closer and toyota is no longer progressing as it once did.

Went to buy a Tundra. Moving to the mountains and wanted a 4X4. Thought I'd try one. Toyota?$32K plus. And that wasn't even the top of the line.
Got a 4X4 Dodge with all the goodies for less than $25K.
Best part? The Quad Cab Hemi gets 18 m.p.g. and it's not even broken in yet; only 3000 miles.

I would think if you were making a point of doing this you could come up with more. I was talking to a taxi driver at the airport with a Lincoln that had 600K and a F-150 owned by a contractor with 530K. This was just in the last two weeks, across North America there must be thousands. Heck, my brother has a Dodge with 205K and a Lincoln with 260K miles, will they make the 500K? I'll let you know in 6-7 years.

What you guys fail to understand is YES Toyota may have more recalls than other manufacturers because they actually give a crap!! I own a 2000 Silverado and there are multiple problems i have had with that truck that if you go on any chevy truck forum, you will see that tons of people are having the same problems. But does GM recall the vehicles? HELL NO! instead they just say sorry that problem is NORMAL because it happens on all of our vehicles!!! what Toyota sees as a problem that needs to be fixed. GM sees as a common problem that as long as it does not kill you,its OK. That is why Toyota has more recalls! because they know what customer service is! Believe if GM and ford actually fixed the problems that they SHOULd be fixing instead of ignoring them as "normal" they would have just as many recalls as toyota if not more! and this is coming form a die hard chevy guy. I own a 98 4runner and all i do is put gas spark plugs and tire son it and it jsut keeps going. unlike thye transmission i replced on my Silverado at 98000 miles!!!!!

One has 760K...no more solid proof than that There are many documented Ford Econoline vans with over a million miles still used in the service industry. I came across this bit of info in an article about a Tennesee hospital that has a 1991 Econoline with over 975,000 that is still used everyday to transport people/medical supplies to people living in the Appalachian mountains.

They do care unlike Chevy and Ford. I have a 87 4Runner with 345k Miles with the original motor and tranny. The only major thing i have replaced is the alternator. Runs like a champ. Call around to local junkyards and find out why their are limited supplies for toyota trucks and SUV. The closest junkyard from Virginia was in California that have a rear window relay for my 4Runner. Called over 40 online junkyards and that was the closest one. Google the F150 and Tundra Video were the tundra drags the f150 across the parking lot. LOL.

So if they recall my car for a new gas cap, let them, It's still 75 times less than I'd be going to a mechanic with an american car saying, "HHHMMM, why is my car doing this?" I have a corolla with 101,000 miles on it. It had one sensor changed, that's it. You american car lovers will wish you never bought one....your hard earned money, wasted. Hey, I have a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup with 119,000 mi. All I have ever done with it is service, tires, and a battery. Oh, I did have to replace the front bumper after some idiot backed into it. Guess what she was driving...Yep, that's right...a Toyota. Guess that was the second time she did not pay enough attention to what she was doing.

Toyota has recalls, yes. The big three have service calls that cost their customers money. In other words Toy fixes their stuff via internal recalls and the government forces the big three to do so.

I have one of each, toyota sequoia, ford diesel 4X4, chevy blazer.. blazer has 160,000 on it and is becoming money pit. diesel has 100,000 on it runs like a champ and the toyota has 50,000 running great. I am waiting for toyota's diesel to come out next year, I will compare it to dodge diesel and make my decision from there. Ford diesel is too heavy for my work purposes... Also have a suburban work vehicle, it has 75,000 on it and needs work..

I have a 1994 f150 small v8 5 speed, 248.000 miles original engine tranny rear end. Replaced water pump alternator and belts. Truck burns ZERO OIL between oil changes (every 3000) driven daily. pulls my boat on weekends. and is a wonderful vehicle. Buy an untested Foreign Truck if ya like but I will never consider one.
