THANKS GARPO! FINALLY SOME ONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT. THIS WORKS.
GARPO wrote:
The CORRECT PLACE to find the code for a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is under the defrost vent on the passenger side. First, remove the plastic vent cover(I used a flat-head screwdriver). Then, from outside, with the wiper blade up, look through the windshield for a cream (off white-yellow) box with a white sticker on it.*Look kind of back under the dash. You should see the sticker with an arrow pointing left preceding the word FORWARD. Just to the right of the word FORWARD you will find a numerical code in BOLD. This is YOUR CODE. The easiest way to view the code is by covering your head and that part of the windshield with a blanket...then use a flashlight.(This helps to eliminate any glare)

I've been trying to find out the correct answer all afternoon for this- my wife and I have a used 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. I've looked under the defrost thing on the dash, the 'jack' area, and didn't see anything behind the area on the right side passenger rear door. We did not get a lock code factory wise for the car as it was used.. can someone email me the CORRECT way to do things or post the CORRECT location of this computer module, so we can save ourselves a $100+ bill at the dealer?

hi, I just bought a 2001 Windstar SE and I can't find the code for the keypad. Supposedly it's in a secret location in the car but I could not find it where the manual said (card in the glove compartment & sticker on the computer module). It wasn't in either place, would appreciate some help. I will use ebay as a last resort. Thanks.

What's the big deal with the door keypad? It is so obsolete. I don't know why it is still put on new cars. What is it good for? I unlock my Linclon by pressing the remote keyfob. Unlock all the doors, press the keyfob twice. Unlock and put all the windows down and open the sunroof, hold the unlock button down for 3secs. Don't want the windows and sunroof to open all the way? Hold the button down for 3secs as soon as you see the windows starting to open press the button again everything stops opening. They were great before remote keyfobs. Now, they are usless. Stop putting the obsolete looking door keypads on our great looking cars. Save Ford some money and the people who buy your cars.

On 2003 Explorer, the door code is on the computer module. The module is located behind the passenger rear door. To access, remove the plastic cover that the seat belt goes through (just pull lightly and it will pop off, then lift up on the top to undo). Once removed, look into the lower plastic piece and you will see the box. Just pull and pop the plastic out and you can read the code ( the big bold 5 digit number). try the code before putting everything back together. Need no tools, and took about 10 min to pop everything off.
I have an 03' Explorer xlt & this worked for me, thank you!

I have a 2002 ford explorer xlt the code is located on the computer under the plastic cover of the rear door i didnt see it at first but when you remove the plastic pillar panel if you follow the bundle of wires down to the black or gray box the code will be on the front side of the box closest to you.

Just a note for most explorers the code will more than likely be on your computer... you just have to locate your computer.
