Well, Ken, I guess that could also mean that the standard stick shift doesn't have the same issues as the automatic.

I'm having the same problem with my 99 explorer. The od light is flashing and it slips between 2nd and 3rd. I have to take it in to the repair shop tomorrow they think its the valve body.

My 2001 Explorer started having these same problems last week at 109,000 miles. My husband thought I was crazy when I would call him and tell him about the O/D Off light. After he drove it for an hour, he finally experienced what I was telling him. I'm taking it to a transmission specialist Wednesday to find out what is going on.

Folks, they will offer you a rebuild and a bill of several thousand dollars - or a reconditioned transmission for a few dollars less. Keep driving it, it doesn't make a lot of difference once you get used to it and the beep from the dash stops annoying you.

this problem is a real pain in the ass. what i had to do its trace all my wireing for the speed secncers check every plug i even changed the speed sencers. not a very lovly job to do....i even had it presures checked . what seemed to be the problem was the torque convertor. my truck shifts and drives like new again .for about $600.00 and i did all the work my self i hope this will help you all out cause no mec con nic could help me other then try this try that bull shit .

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer. Three weeks after the truck overheated and I had to have major repairs (replace radiator and a few other things that probably got too hot as well), I began having transmission problems...or so I thought.The transmission takes forever to transition in between gears.The O/D light blinks if I go over a certan speed. I keep hearing I need a new transmission.But research has shown me that after these trucks over heat it can cause the electrical system and make many things go haywire. If anyone has experienced overheating and engine problems, then transmission problems...please share your story and let me know if you have a possible solution besides transmission replacement. FYI-Include me with the lawsuit. I know the ford explorers have transmission problems. A friend had a brand new explorer (in 2001/2002) and the transmission went out after two years. Thank God she was still under warranty and Ford replaced the transmission. She never bought ford again. I wish I would have talked to her first.

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer and last week my check engine light came on and O/D light started blinking. I took my explorer to the shop and was told that if I changed out the transmission oil and filter that my problems should be fixed. After a $206.00 bill and 10 minutes down the road the light came back on and so did the check engine. I took truck back and was told now that they would have to replace the TCC solenoid or torque converter! After reading all of the above stories I am wondering what I should do. My truck is not slipping gears, the only problem I have had twice was trying to get it out of park. When the lights come on the gears do not slip.... Of course I am a female and I do worry about driving the truck and the lights coming on, and suggestions? Please feel free to email me at [email protected]

I also have the same problem my od light flashes when it does flash it shifts realy hard from 2nd to third.
I have to kill the engine and start it again to keep the light from flashing when I hit second I have to let go of the gas pedlle and accelerate again to make it shift to third smoothly. Its also a 2001 ford exploerer and yes I also have a crack on my back window frame I also have seen many explorers with a craked window frame. Ford transmissions suck regardles of wether its a explorer or taurus or escort you name the car the tranny sucks.

Mine has 137,000 miles on it and the od light is blinking all of a sudden, I have yet to have it checked out.

1998 Eddie Bauer, 4.0 SOHC, only 92k mi, babied, well maintained, no prior issues......then, all of a sudden - "today"......started slipping from 2nd to 3rd, but fine when in 3rd or O/D, etc.....some kind of speed sensor/solenoid issue would make sense. I went directly and had codes checked at bad codes show at all, OD working fine, no blinking light issues......just an abnormal shift from 2nd to 3rd like all the rest. It's hard to believe that there's not a simple fix to this as there's no clunking, etc.......but based on everyone's mechanic seems to know the real answer.

If anyone would like to join, I would be very interested in filing a lawsuit to force FMC to correct their problem, I know there are many more people with this problem, some have already spent thousands of dollars to repair it, I would rather spend that money getting Ford to fix the problem on their transmissions so others do not have to put up with this nonsense.
Now everything is about how quickly it can be made and how many of a particular item can be sent off the line with less regard towards performance and lifespan. I have owned several vehicles from the 80's that have automatic transmissions that have not been serviced in 10 years that are shifting fine and dandy, but now vehicles are just designed to last five years max and then it falls apart faster than lightning.
I am with all of you on this if even it goes anywhere

Our Explorer 2002 Eddie Bauer just failed its inspection because of code P0775 Pressure Control Solenoid which is part of the, yes you guessed it, transmission. Odd that it hasn't failed before because our light has been blinking for over 2 years.

Im having the same problem with my 99 explorer...i called ford and when I explained my problem they decided to change the subject and say the recall I have now on the truck is more important than my issue at hand and I should get that fixed. Then they had s "technical problem" and had to restart their system. Im sick of getting the run around because they would rather put less then good parts in their vehicles. Has anyone gotten anywhere as far as getting their problem resolved through ford where they owned up to faulty craftsmanship and actually help the customer and not tell them they are a file number in a computer?

I have same problem. I just had the transmission rebuilt and picked up vehicle last Friday. Today is Wednesday and I have the same problem again. Hard time shifting 1st to 2nd and does not shift into 5th

I have a 2000 ford explorer 98,000 Mi.O/D light blinking and tran slipping. I hear that the solenoid needs replaced is this the problem? has anyone heard the same?
