2005 Expedition

I have a 2005 Ford Expedition with 84,000 miles. I have been told that I need a new computer which will cost around $1,000 or more. The computer failing has caused the fuel injectors, spark plugs, and other things to fail. Is the computer failing a common problem in a 2005 with relatively low miles?
