2003 Ford Expedition: lurching motion and engine seizing up

About 3 months ago our 2003 Ford Expedition started having problems that have since been intermittent but more prone to happen when the gas tank is at a quarter of a tank (or fuel tank low). When it happens the car lurches forward pretty hard. Twice now the engine has seized up completely (Beginning with the lurching motion, next comes the inability to give it gas and have the car accelerate, last the steering locks up and the car dies. The battery is still working at this time.) When I turn the car off and then start it back up it fires right up without any issues and drives just fine. At this point it has not produced any messages in the message center nor has the check engine light come on. A friend ran his code reader on it the first time the whole car died but nothing came back. I took it to a friend's transmission shop as well. We did a test run with it while running a scanner and the only thing that came back was that the clutch in the torque converter was not engaging.

It recently had a full tun-up (including spark plugs changed out), oil change, and the mass airflow sensor changed out (not a Ford factory part however). We are getting the run-around because there is nothing to read off the car to tell us why it is acting up. Any suggestions??

Some ideas previously presented were to check for a vacuum leak, computer issues, coils, positive pressure in the fuel tank or replace the mass airflow sensor with a Ford factory one. I also considered changing out the fuel filter or maybe an issue with the fuel pump although I don't think either would lead to intermittent issues. Would love some help on this!

Did you mean your Expedition (engine) stalling intermittently, at slow or high speed, with no check engine light? If so, read the thread on this postings, it might solve your issues. Pay particular attention to the postings of "fnoel".
