i had 77,000 miles on my ford and the engine piston cracked and the engine was destroyed. GIECO who i have a service policy gave me a used engine. The car is still in the shop for a month now.
First i took the car to the ford dealership, but they wanted $1000 to find out what is wrong with it. I took it to my usual service station that determined the problem in 1/2 day for free.
The car has been recalled 2 times, and i have encountered previous problems. It is the first and last ford i am going to own. Back to foreign cars.

I have a 2003 Ford Escape that has 107K miles. I have put on all of the miles and had regular service but recently the engine blew up while it was going do the road. The Local Ford dealer is not very helpful but is will to put a new engine in for $5700. I approved the repair and the first engine that they put in would not run once it was installed. The second engine they put in runs ok but now it will be $1800 to replace the exhaust system because it was damaged when the engine blew up. Something about a blocked catalitic converters and muffler. I Know I am being had but I am to far into the repair. I want to know where Ford is when a three year old engine blows up for no apprent reason. The dealer will not spend the time to determine what was the root cause. Thank God I have two other Chryslers to use.

Same problem as the folks above - engine issues which resulted in pistons number 4 and 6 cracking in the same place - end result, motor is knackered! I know because I have torn it down myself - have never seen two pistons from a motor crack on the top of the piston, let alone crack two crack in the same place. Blocked catalytic converter at the same time added to the woes. Don't want to knock ford because all brands have their issues; but won't be going back to an Escape though - piece of cr.. to say the least. Lightweight panels, dodgy plastic everywhere. I know it is an SUV, but it is really soft. Lemon from ford.

I have a 2006 Escape. It has a vibration in the accelerator pedal, especially when it shifts into 4th gear. If I accelrate fast, like on the highway, it's not as obvious as in town driving. My foot feels the vibration and it's driving me crazy! What could be the cause?

I have a 2002 Ford Escape. I also had a problem with the catalytic converter. It was in the shop from March 5, 2007 until April 12, 2007. They replaced all three cats and the muffler. Supposedly there were no cats available in the United States. When we received it back we drove 200 miles and the cats have to be replaced again. We have 78,000 miles so we are just below the 80,000 mile warranty. Corporate Ford has been no help. The dealer we took it to have been sympathetic but Ford Corp has been no help to them either. They do not know what is causing the problem. They are waiting to hear from the Ford engineers. We have asked for loaners but to no avail. Ford Corporation just gives you the run around.

Same thing just happened to me. I have a 2003 Ford Escape with 64K miles on it. It's been in the shop for a week now and they're saying the parts are on back order. Meanwhile, I'm paying the car rental bill. I'm with the first poster - this is my first Ford (American car), and it will be my last!!!

We have a 2003 Ford escape with 3.0V6, tried to take it on a road trip, on a steep hill it became slugish and had no power, it turns out all 3 catalitic converters are plugged, and blown out the EGR, not sure if engine is damaged. We can't even repair it since there is a backorder of these parts in US and Canada. Ford has 8yr, 80,000mile warranty, and won't help you if 1mile over.SELL ASAP these vehicles are garbage. Last ford we will ever own. Going back to Dodge.

We purchased a 2003 Ford escape with 3.0 V6 in May 2007, In Sept took it on roadtrip, it spluttered while going up a hill, then it died. Upon towing it back, we were told all 3 catalitic converters were plugged, and blew out the EGR. Were not sure if there engine damage yet. We can't even fix it since there is a backorder on the cats in US and Canada. There is a 8yr, 80,000 mile warranty, and ford won't help if 1 mile over. This is the last ford we will ever own. Going back to Dodge.

I have a 2003 Ford Escape FWD V6 3.0 liter. Just last night I was pulling out of my garage to go to work. I turned it on, backed out of the garage put it in park while it was still running, pushed my motorcycle in the garage, and got back in my car. When I went to put the car in drive the shifter would not move. It was stuck in Park. I tried restarting the vehicle and even disconnecting and reconnecting the positive cable on the battery. Nothing worked. I have had the same thing happen to me about one year ago. I had to get it towed to the dealership where they charged me $493 to fix it and all they told me was that they needed to replacing wiring and a few fuses. Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with my car?

I have a 2003 Escape which started shimmying this week. Brought it to the dealer who said the front tires are too worn and need to be replaced. No problem. However, because the tires were worn, th Power Take Off (PTO) which controls the 4x4 on demand kept trying to come on and now the dealer says it needs to replaced and the car is unsafe to drive. In addition, this part is on back order until 2/2, but I'm not supposed to drive the car. Needless to say it is a very costly part with 6 hours of labor. Is there a way to validate this repair other than the dealer's word and has anyone else had to have this done?

I hav ea 2003 ford escape the A/C makes the vehiacle loose power. If you slow down and have the A/C on you need to press a lot off gas to go again or turn it off to be able to drive at normal speed. The alternator has gone bad 2X already

I just purchesed a 2003 ford escape with 95K miles on it and the only problems ive had so far was my alternator and a control arm bushing and and the only the stabilizer links. other then those little problems it costed me nothing all you other people who bought the escape used, are dumb for not geting some kind of warrenty on it. and apparently you ppl who had warrenties didnt take advantage of it. and when your shit has 50,000+ miles onit stuff is bound to start falling appart.

I have a 2003 Escape which I purchased in February of 2007 with 42000 miles, I now have almost 76000 and i've already had it in the shop for different things, the alternator went and the shift cable, I found that out the hard way when trying to leave one night and the car said it was in neutral when it was in park, the alternator I had to also discover the hard way when it died in the drive-thru at starbucks with all of my friends in the car. Overall I really do not like the car and at the time I bought it should have thought twice. Also is there anyway to shorten the delay on the headlights, i'm stupid when it comes to leaving them on and thankfully it has that feature, but 10 minutes is a bit much. Any info anyone has would be great. I'm in the process of trying to get rid of the car now, and the trade in for it sucks. I like it and then I don't. Oh well i'm stuck for now.
