I have a 2002 Escape, which emits a high pitched whistle sound when brake pedal is released. Tapping does not help. Often this noise continues even after car is shut off. Any suggestions as to what the cause/remedy might be??

I have the same problem but with a 2003 Intrepid. I've read it could the brake pedal bushings, the brake booster and today I read about rubber boot around the plunger for the master cylinder (sound expensive. Anyway I've printed all this info and taking it to my garage. I'll let you know which was the right answer.
