I have a 2001 ford escape v6 that has trouble starting. it sounds like it wants to turn over but doesnt, no lights are dimming or anything, if i hit the gas and rev it a few times it will turn over but i have to keep my foot on the gas for a minute. after that it was fine. that was the first day then a week went by no problems. today it did the same thing but twice. then it was fine the rest of day. any idea?

I've been having similar problems with my 2001 Escape V6 for the past 2 months. It cranks and cranks but won;t start. Then it may start and run rough for a few minutes before idling smooth. The car has had all scheduled maintenance including a recent plug change (which is a PITA on this car. Who said Ford had a better idea? Oh that's right, it was FORD.

I've been having these problems also, went into the ford dealer and they said that some carbon could have built up in the EGR Valve which is above your throttle Body, just take it off and clean the inside of it and put it back on and should solve your problem. I've just tried it and it seems to have worked, but who knows how long that will last.

My 2001 ford escape did the same thing, exactly!
I had accidentally put "87" gas in it, and the next morning, the car wouldn't start! I ran off the "87", and filled the tank with "90"! Haven't had any problem since. Hope this helps!

2002 Escape consistently won't start. IAC replaced. Starts if gas cap removed. Changing gas did not work. Evaporation canister valve determined to be "stuck" so F1 in central junction box removed to disable it which leaves CHECK ENGINE light on all the time. Back to removing gas cap to start. No solution yet.

It's always the lower intake manifold gaskets when you have trouble with the escape running smoothly. Costs about $250. Forget the other ideas as to what is wrong.

Usual when you get an idle or no start to be a fault idle air control valve stuck open ( note: no codes present )

I own a 2001 Ford Escape. It won't start. We put in a new catillitic converter, a EGR pressure sensor, new coils, throttle sensor, EGR valve, EGR vacuum, and it still won't start. Does anyone know why it still doesn't start? Any answers? Please help!!

Wiggle the wiring harness commuting out of the fire wall while someone cranks it. If it starts there could be a broken wire. It will be one of the two in the harness that are wrapped in foil. That's what mine was. It would randomly die, usually backing up. Hope this helps.

. I presume you mean its turning over but not starting. I found this on my 2001 2wd escape. A small ring of CARBON builds up inside the throttle body preventing the butterfly from closing. This causes the IAC to sense TOO MUCH air, so the computer shuts-down FUEL and SPARK. Just clean the inside of throttle body with carburetor cleaner and it should start. Keep in mind, it ONLY takes a LITTLE carbon to cause this problem, good luck.
