Had this problem with my 2003 Escape at about 63 000, as well as the Engine blowing up due to a bad piston about 1500 km before the alternator *grrrr*

We have a 2003 Escape V6 with 70,000 miles, noticed 2 weeks ago paint is peeling on the top behind th sun roof and on the drivers side door. Fords say because it is out of warranty they will only pay 60/40. Is there any suggestions on who to contact at Fords to get help. We feel that Fords should take care of the repainting of the Escape. Thanks

I have a 2002 V6 Escape 74k and the alternator just went. The bad news came when I was told they had to take the drive shaft off to change it. 5-7 hours labor.

Escape 2.0 XLT 2001
Replaced the alternator a year ago, Mar 2007 with a reconditioned one. The original is double the price.
Replaced the battery in June 2006 and again today Mar 2008.

2002 Ford Escape XLT, 93,000 miles. New battery 3 months ago, now needs an alternator. Mechanic quotes $700, new replacement plus 3 hours of labor as he has to remove the axle. Hope this is all true! First money I have put into this vehicle besides 3 sets of tires!

My alternator failed and we exchanged it, but the alternator still isn't charging the battery, anyone else had that problem?

Yes they have to take the right front axle off.

Make sure your battery is fully charged before you start the car. If your battery is too low, the computer won't kick the alternator on.

125Km and putting in my second alternator! Word of advice, buy one with a lifetime warenty. 5 hrs labour is outragouse! 2 - 3tops is all that is need as they do indeed have to tear down the rignt side of the drive train.
In regards to the tires.. Escapes eat them I swear. I get an Alignmemt/rotation with evey 2nd oil change! huge differnce!
Ladies do your research! our you'll be taken for a ride

Had mine changes somewhere around 60000 and they had done it at a Ford dealer cost over 500.00. They said they had to remove the exhaust system.

Just had this EXACT problem! Had to put in a (rebuilt)engine a month ago and today spending 660.00 to put in new alternator. Love my escape but this is ridiculus!

Getting ready to have alternator replaced on 2004 Escape. The cost is rediculous. This is bad engineering and design. A new battery causes the alternator to go out! I smell Class Action Lawsuit. To recoup our money . Any Lawyers out their.
