we recently had an incident with our 2005 caravan. The fuel light came on, we did not fill up right away decided we had time to fill up the next day. When we were parking the vehicle we backed up to straighten up, when the vehicle was put in forward, we lost control as it shot forward suddenly at a fast speed, jumped the sidewalk and we hit a cement step. Needless to say the tire blew, the rim is bent and the fender is crushed. The air bag did not deploy on impact, however the air bag light is on now. My question is, can we safely drive the van or can the air bags deploy?
As long as the air bag light is on the air bags will not work

Airbags are disabled when the light is on so they won't work

We to have a 2002 Town and Country. Air bag light has been on since 2004. Dealer here in TN looked at it twice, charged us twice, must have reset light both times and it came back on. I asked him if he warrantied his work and now will not take it back to him (do not trust them). Contacted Chrysler and they did not respond. Made reports to the feds and had no response. Love the vehicle but found out that you cannot trust the manufacturer or dealers any more.

the 2005 and newer chrysler/dodge minivans have a "knee bolster" airbag in the lower dash below the steering column. there is a steel plate that is hinged at the bottom of the dash in front of the airbag and the hard plastic panel covers this up. when in a frontal collision over 5-10 mph or 8-13 km./hr. this engages and that steel plate is propelled by the airbag into the driver's legs. when the driver feels the sudden severe pain, they recoil and pull their legs back from the pedals and the assembly drops in front of their legs and then the driver can't stop the vehicle until they realize they must lift this up to move their legs. meanwhile, the vehicle continues to roll on after ricocheting off the first collision and has a more severe collision in the oncoming lanes or thru a stop light or sign.
this is dangerous and going to kill someone!!
This is EXACTLY what happened to me! Both of my legs were almost broken in two. And I could not stop the van from rolling backwards. Thankfully I was able to gain my thoughts enough to throw it in park. But the pain was INSTANT and Unbelievable!!!!! And yet Chrysler said they stand by this airbag. That it functioned properly. Had I known about this airbag I would never have bought the car. And I will NEVER buy from Chrysler again.

This is the exact thing that happened to me. It was horrible! A vehicle pulled out on a 4 lane road and I hit them in their side. Both airbags deployed. And the knee airbag bolster was rammed into both of my legs. They was almost broken. But there was no breaks, just badly crushed. And from the knee to the ankles was a horrible blood bruise for weeks. I can't tell you the pain it caused. And here I am almost 7 months later and I still have problems with my legs. There is a scar on both legs and you can feel the actual DENT IN MY LEG BONES. And yet Chrysler will take no responsibility in this matter. I am asking that they recall this part. It is dangerous and deadly. It stops you from putting the brake on. First of all I couldn't move my legs if I wanted too. But you are trapped and rolling backwards. Luckily I gained my thoughts and remembered what was happening. And put it in park while rolling. This is just wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

I was told there was a recall on the 2006 airbag sensors but only in some states .naturally I am in the wrong state but my car came from a recall state go figure

I'm just going to unplug the wires to the sensor behind the front bumper that trigger the airbags. If I have an accident and get injured because of no airbags I'll just worry about suing Chrysler then.
