I'm thinking of buying a used 2005 Neon for my daughter who is just out of college. It's automatic and has 45,000 miles on it. Is this a reliable car? Will it cost her in repairs? How many miles can you expect to get from it? Are you Neon owners generally pleased with the product?
I myself have had several problems out of my car, I can't say that they have been so horrible to make me HATE my car. After all it's a machine that is bound to have problems. Just try to get a good warranty with the car if you can. The warranty's are a god send at times. They are good cars, you just can't run them all into the ground and expect them to stay in good shape. I drive 500 miles in 5 days going to and from work, so that could have a lot to do with the problems I have had. It's a good car, just watch the maintenance, FOLLOW THE RECCOMMENDED MAINTENANCE!!

Neon is not a car I want, I have a Lincoln Zephyr/mkz, for that. And a dodge ram is nice but instead I have a Chev avalanche.

I just bought a 2003 Dodge Neon SE from a used car place and the breaks squeak very loud. I took it back and they supposedly they replaced the break pads and rotated the rotors. Well they continue to make the sound and I took it back, they told me they cant find anything wrong with the breaks. But to make matters worse, the guy who sold it to me said that neons breaks are just louder than other cars. Does anyone have ant suggestions?
Hi tina i happen to be an auto mechanic that works on various cars and ,your 2003 dodge neon probably needs to warmed up or dried up, do to parking it outside overnight. The brakes can get wet from being cold ,this happens to any car .What you need are bremo brakes they are the best i used them on my 1968 porsche 911s ,and they are absolutly fantastic.so take my advise you wont regret it.

I have had 3 Neons.. First Neon was a 96 Dodge Neon 4 door... I bought for $800 in good shape, I replaced an alternator, Sealants and Timing belt.. It rode untill it was almost broke and I sold it for $500 maybe to one of you LOL.. Then I got a 99 Plymoth Neon which I like better, it was the best car but the guy who put the last timming belt used a cheap brand and it snapped and tore the whole engine up!!:(.... Now I bought my 3rd Neon another 96 Dodge Neon, it drove great for a whole 7 days.. Now it won't start and it sounds like the Fuel Filter, there was actually my friends Neon next to mine when it died and we started switching parts to see if we could fix it.. NOW HER NEON is doing the same thing, so there are 2 busted Neons side by side with the same problem.. Neons are good cars, but there is always something that fucks up every 30k miles.

DON'T DO IT! My son bought one six months ago and it has been in the shop FIVE times! Fortunately, he also purchased the extended warranty. So far, had to replace the brakes, the fuel pump, a computer chip, and the fuel line was messed up.

The only time that your breaks should be loud is when they are wet dodge uses semi metallic brakes and they areususally loud when wet but once you get them dry there should be no problem. GOod luck

The Neon was yet another low point in American automotive design and production.

Owning a car, ANY make of car, requires you to either know a few things about how they work or to have a mechanic who is not going to screw you over. All of the problems that people tell me neon's have, I've never experienced. While it DOES have it's odds and ends that could be better, the car as a whole is more reliable and better to drive then most I've had the opportunity to work on and/or drive. From what I've read in these forum posts, alot of people are just not experienced enough with cars to understand what's actually going on, or they are being screwed by the people they let work on them.

Noted for having bad head gaskets, most old Neons have long crapped the bed.

Because Dodge is the worst auto maker in the world even KIA is better than Dodge. If you want a real American car buy a GM vehicle or even a Ford but NOT DODGE!!!:(

I have a neon with 161,000 on it. I'm about to put its second timing belt ts been perfectly reliable. Just change the oil every 6,0000 miles. I had Chrysler change the paper head gasket at 70,000miles (for $150 as a goodwill gesture).

Apart from that its been a superb car, had no other problems whatsoever.

Oh I just took a new job where I commute 500 miles a week.

I have heard of several neons doing around 250k miles.
