Have a 2006 Sprinter 3500, intermittent starter problems. Try to start, will not start but have power. Have to get under truck and use jumper cables to jump solenoid so it will send power to starter. Dealership installed new starter in June 2008 but unit failed again. Please help!!

my 08 3500 did a simular thing a few times back in jan and feb when it was brand new and It was cold and the first start in the morning. Junp in turn key on ,Let the glow plug light go on the off then turn the key to start and Nothing happens. No click no grown no nothing. It would then start or I should say Crank after 2 or three trys. It seens that the computer decides when to power the starter relay or how ever the starter gets power not a contact when you turn the key (like the old days , key switch sends power to relay, that sends power to starter) It seemed like a software issue or computer problem or its the computer not booting up fast in cold weather. Its been fine all summer. Ill see what happens when its cold here in NJ

The cause of failure is fuse block #1 located at the steering column. It needs to be replace. Take off the access cover and tap the box with ign. key in the start position the van will start. Internal short.

I've had intermittent starting issues wtih my 2007 Sprinter. Once i put a new battery in, and cranked it 5 or 6 times one evening. The next morning, it was the same thing. Turn the ignition and get a 'click' or 'clank' type noise.
Any help appreciated. It still happens and drives me nuts.

Thanks Dodge tech!! for your answer, But what do you mean, for the part to be replaced? Is it a fuse? or the entire fuze box under stearing columb?
or is it a relay?,
(Your amswer: The cause of failure is fuse block #1 located at the steering column. It needs to be replace. Take off the access cover and tap the box with ign. key in the start position the van will start. Internal short.)
My probem I hear a Click or clank Sound when trying to Turn key to Start it, sometimes one time Then it Starts, sometimes up to 7 times, I had my battery tested even do its new it puts out over 900 cold cranking amps but rated for 760 and my starter is new and I just bought and replaced positive cable that runs to starter and Alternator and nagative cable that Runs to body! But still i have problem, i even bought a relay and ignition switch but not yet replace them not sure where the relay is!
I realy like your answer but not sure what to replace please let me know thanks so much

I have a Dodge Sprinter van that has been nothing but trouble from the time I bought it. I had issues with the engine which I have had replaced. I then had issues with it starting and now have a new battery. Now I have issues with the computer not resetting and I can;t get it out of first gear. There is no service tech available that is familiar with the Sprinter until the end of Nov! The truck is essentially useless at this point and no one seems to be able to identify the problem. What could possibly be wrong? Every panel light is lit up-like a Christmas tree! HELP! Thank you.

I had eratic starting for days and then no starts, a few months ago with my 2003 Sprinter. Eventually found that one of the fuel injectors was leaking. With that replaced for about $1000 there have been no problems for three months.
