It's more than likely something to do with the brake light switch. See if your brake lights work. Check the fuse for the brake lights, It's in the fuse block under the steering column. A 10 amp fuse. Also, it could be a brake light switch.

i just bought an 04 158" high roof sprinter and after going to get it safety inspected here in NC, I noticed the ABS light, the ESP light, and the tire pressure light are now on.... but the person doing the inspection said the van was not hooked up to anything? could this be a coincidence? Upon noticing the lights about a mile after leaving the inspection station I turned the van off and back on at a stoplight to see if "things would reset" but then it wouldn't shift out of park. I had to use the manual override to get it out of gear and driveable but the lights remain on. I sure would appreciate any help.

hi, i have a 2005 sprinter 2500 and we recently did the front ball joints on it along with an alignment and almost immediately as we drove it off the bay door we noticed when u brake as you come to a complete stop the abs light comes on just for a second and then disappears. anyone have any pointers on what this could be.

hi i have an 06 sprinter. the gearshift was very hard to pull out of park. further examination i found that the brake switch in the gearshifter was broken. i took it out and put everything back together. now the abs, esp, engine and traction lights are on. worse yet when you shift it into gear it slams into it and it wont shift out of first gear anymore. i could really use some ideas. especially before monday when my boss finds out it isnt working

Usually have problems with Wheel speed sensors setting ABS and ESP codes which will alter vehicle state to limp home at times. Speed sensors are metal tubes that sit at an angle to a "tone ring" in the wheel with little cut out slots to show the sensor what the speed of the wheel is. if this sensor is not making proper contact with the tone ring it will set a specific code in the ABS Module and ABS and ESP lights will show up.

Roger, I have the same problem. My brake fuse is OK and the lights work. Could it still be the switch?
