Expensive Particulate Filters

Recently I ( www.AffordableEngine.com ) had a buyer which just recently got a pre-owned Dodge Sprinter 2500 engine and determined he was required to swap the Diesel Particulate Filtration system (DPF). I had not heard of it prior to this and so I had to get on Bing to understand what it was. When I found out, I thought it will be one or two hundred dollars at most. Man, we were both set for a surprise.
A new DPF cost approximately $3500, you can find a non-oem company which makes one for around $1500. Even calling around to the yards, a refurbished one would be $1,000. Even if he found a pre-owned one he would be required to pay an extra $350 to get the various soot purged out of the DPF before he could be able to use the thing.
Some guidance to all of you Sprinter operators out there, maintain your DPF, complete each of the required renewal rotations and have it cleaned out now and then, if not, your looking at a good pile of greenbacks to buy a new one.
