2 months ego I purchased 2007sprinter 2500 v6 from the dealer. It halved only 500 miles and was purchased as new with 3yr 36 k miles warranty. One weak leather I noticed little rust on side panel by the sliding track. I took it car to dealer and they buff it out. Now one month later I can cee rust spots on sliding doors and on the back door. They are size of little dots but they all over. I spoke to different dodge dealer and he say that warranty won't cover it cusp itís not that bad. For warranty to kick in you need have holes so big that you can stick you finger in. So I ask how it is possible that rust come out like that and they answer was that it is common problem with Germany cars because Germany manufacture do not use clear coat on the paint. And they as a dealer canít do much.
Sound like bunch of crap to me. Was wondering if any one halved same problem or at last if someone can advise me what to do?

I was just told the same thing. I know this is going to be a big problem when my lease is up, and I try to unload this lemon.
The dealers are completely unwilling to deal with anything warranty.

If you bought white color, cargo it is "normal", quality of pain is bad on it. I have passenger one and black metallic paint, 3 years old still looks like new after wash and wax. Good luck in battle with dealer.

This is a problem with many Dodge Sprinters. At 30,000 miles (3 years) I needed to repaint the area above the winshield due to about 50 rust spots. The dealer said that the he has seen many much worse than mine, it is because of faully paint jobs, and Dodge was calling this rock chips and unwilling to cover. Now 2 years later the whole van needs to be re-pained at 50,000 miles (5 years). Again the dealer is saying that Dodge is not honouring the warranty on any Sprinter paint issues.

This is a company that should have gone out of business but for taxpayer bailouts.

I have a 2005 Sprinter. I started having rust issues into my first year of ownership. I fought with Chrysler for three years over this issue! They were feeding me a line that it was railroad dust that got on the van during transport, which is simply not true. The problem is simply a poor quality paint job! I'm now in my Fifth year of ownership, and the rust continues to come right through the paint! I have sued the Dealer, and Chrysler over this issue in small claims Court. The body shops where I got the quotes, say the only way to correct this problem is to take the van to the metal and start over! I'm waiting for my court date, and hope I'm successful, but even if I'm not I had the balls to stand up for myself; because I don't know about you guys buy I'm tired of getting screwed by these car dealerships and Manufactuers.

And here I thought i was the only person with this problem!! I own a 2007 white sprinter and have noticed several rust spots coming from underneath the paint. The biggest one is about the size of a golf ball on the bottom corner of the back door.Just got it out of the body shop and cost about $350.00 to fix them. Sent pictures to Chrysler dealer to see what gives. From reading this post i guess I am wasting my time!!

the problem is the body was not properly prepared before paint, the phosphate bath was not done properly or not done at all. the body panels had rust on them then they painted over it so a year later the rust breaks thru the paint. the fix grind the paint off acid wash then primer .i was the founder of the masterseries coating line and have thought of a sprinter and have seen this rust problem

We have a 2005 Sprinter and everywhere you look, there is rust. It has the 5 year/100,000 mile rust warranty. I brought it to the dealer and the estimate to repair came to $12,000.00. WOW They also told me that warranty would cover $2000.00. So what they are telling me is that it would cost me $10,000.00 to fix my 4 year old van! What a crock of S#!%. I like the van, but I dont know if I will ever buy a Dodge product again in my life.

We have five vans (04 - 06) and all but the newest ( 07 ) has the same issues. The rocker panels are spotted with small rust spots 100's of them. We took care of the paint ourselves by sanding the surface down and repainting the lower rocker panels. The quality of the over all job is not like you would have gotten out of a pro shop just couldn't justify he cost of going to a pro. Just couldn't afford the pro. The rust has stopped for now. We also have rust that is coming out of the rear windows. When we peeled the windows off there were holes that was rusted right through the metal.

I have a "08" Sprinter bought new June "09".Within a couple months I notice tiny rust spots the size of pin points, all over. Dodge dealer said it is "rail rust" from transportation. They had a body shop rub it with some kind of clay. Looked ok. Within a few months I started noticing the rust spots showing up again, not necessaraly in the same spots. Again they used the clay. Now rust spots are showing up again. The person I spoke to from Chrysler recently asked if I live near railroad tracks, and that could be the problem, and that would not be covered under the warranty?????????? What a dip sht. From reading the other posts I now see this is not an isolated problem. Somebody has to take responsibility for this major flaw. I' ve seen 5 year old Sprinters with rust spots the size of silver dollars. This is what mine will look like. A class action suit may be what we need, but who has time for that. Lemon Law may be an option. 3 or 4 times for the same problem, and the vehicle is considered a lemon. I am not going to end up with a rust bucket after paying top dollar for this van. Question is who is responsible, Dodge or Mercedes?

I have a 2006 2500 Sprinter with the same rust problem! Yes, the Arctic white cargo so really shows up nice. It is horrible!!!I bought the van brand new and by 15k I started to notice rust spots, now the entire back is rusted. I live in San Francisco and looks like the van has lived on the east coast. Does anyone know if any action has been taken? This is clearly a major flaw. Please send any info! Thanks.

I think we need to get people together to complain and perhaps take action. Now that Chrysler is no longer with Mercedes, I think we can go after Mercedes. I have an 08 I brought in twice so far. They clayed out the spots, but the spots are back. In my state, 4 times in for the same problem, and the lemon law takes effect. I' ve been too busy to go in a 3rd time, but I will.

the dealers are the most incopetant places i will look for an answer. My sugestion to you is call crysler direct and have a case worker designated for your problem.and as for paint quality thay are lying those vans are painted here since thay are put together here. if that was true all the mercedes cars will have the same problem. my 2003 had the same problem all over the roof and at the corner of the windshield, but the most rusted spots are on the rear doors corners by the drain holes

Who is the real fur ball in this paint?? I am not sure, but have been told by Dodge that Mercedes built the drive train, Freightliner USA contracted with mercedes to build the body and assemble in the good old USA for mercedes. Chrysler, saw a opportunity to sell a hot product "pushed on them by the mercedes merger" ? and then found a way to push the owner problems off this way and that. Companies that do not stand behind their products deserve to have their business taken by yugo. The best I can tell we all have a good old quality paint job done in the USA with good old quality american car paintjob. What is there to complain about? Just get it repainted for around $1500 and be done with it, I doubt Chrysler will ever step up to the plate!

Same major rust problems here in MN on my 2005 Sprinter. Several trips to the dealer with MINOR repairs completed. They will not back me up on this. VERY frustrating!

Same here in canada, 2004 gray sprinter, about 20 golf ball size holes in the paint, dripping rust from all over. Class action needs to be started.

Same here.. 2007 and 2005 Sprinter owner. White cargo with rust dots everywhere. I live in the east coast and I'm no stranger to rust. Never happens until the 10th year on most of my vehicles. Except that toyota truck.. Sold it because it was so rusty and a few weeks later they recalled them. They need to stand by their products... I'm on my way to the dealer... See what happens...

Same problem with my 2006 Sprinter...went to the dealer and even thought they are aware of this issue, they will not do anything since it hasn't rusted completely through. Rust spots have popped up all over the sides and back. Will not buy another one since Chrysler obviously doesn't care.

Just got the 2005 Sprinter touched up... Bill comes to $2400. plus tax and this isn't even all of the rust. the guy at the shop said he would have to replace the panels and the doors in order to guarentee anything, at the price I just paid, maybe I should have opted for new body parts...
