My 2003 Dodge neon won't crank over.I have no power Going to the relay terminal at starter when holding key in start position.I jumped starter at starter then it cranks also at starter relay terminal in fuse box and it cranks swapped relays and nothing.I hooked up my scanner turned on the key to read codes but scanner says key is not on but it is on seams like PCM is not responding. Could it be PCM or neutral safety switch? Where is The Neutral Safety Switch on this car? Any Idea Anyone Please HELP. THANKS batt 12.5volts

I would check for damage to the paths in the relay center. If you think it's the pcm then you should be able to snag one from a "pic your parts" junkyard for cheep and see if that solves the problem.

THanks Hellcat1988 I'll try that. I think if I get a pcm from the junkyard it needs to be programed to match the car for vin & mileage. thanks for your response.

I swapped out my engine from one that had been rolled and the pcm hasn't given me any trouble. From what I've heard, the only time that you'll have trouble is if you swap the transmission.

Either it's not getting enough voltage through the connections because of corrosion or lack of proper connection between the surfaces, or it could be that you damaged the wire inside the insulation in an area that you can't see. Either way, it sounds like the power isn't getting from the battery to the car.

I RECENTLY GOT A 2003 DODGE NEON AND I WAS DRIVING IT AND IT COMPLETELY CUT OFF ON ME. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND NOW IT WANTS TO START BUT IT DOESNT. THE OIL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE OIL BUT THE OIL IS FINE. ITS NOT THE FUEL PUMP OR FILTER I HAD THAT CHECKED. WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE? THE CAM SENSOR? DOES THAT PLAY A ROLE?

The computer works by taking the signal from the cam and crank position sensors to determine where the engine is in it's timing cycle. Once it can read that, it will send spark to the ignition coil at the appropriate time to fire. As the engine turns for start up, it reads the signal from the throttle position sensor, the engine temperature sensor, the (if equipped) intake air temperature sensor, and the manifold absolute pressure sensor to determine how much fuel to add for a proper fuel air mix ratio. After ignition, the computer will read the signal from the oxygen sensors to determine how much of the fuel is being burned by the engine, and adjust the fuel mixture according to it's presets to achieve the cleanest (not necessarily the most powerful) fuel air mixture it can. As the engine warms up, the computer will adjust the fuel mixture by reading the signal from the knock sensor, oxygen sensors, and temperature sensors. My first suggestions to you would be to check the fuses both under the hood and in the dash fuse block. Next, check the timing belt to make sure it isn't broken.(there should be an inspection plug in the timing cover. Mark the cam sprocket with a marker, then try to start it, and check that the mark has moved.) The second thing to do would be to pull a spark plug and check it's condition. If it's not damaged, covered in soot, or wet, then it should be alright. The next thing is to check for spark. There are auto parts stores that will allow you to rent a tool to test it. They plug into the end of the spark plug wire, then onto the spark plug, and will light up as electricity is passed through them. If you're getting spark to all 4, the next thing to check would be your cam and crank sensors. Cam sensors can be bought relatively cheap and replaced with simple hand tools, so I'd suggest replacing it anyway if it hasn't been done on the car yet, as they tend to start leaking after a while due to a poor seal design. If you've done all this and it's still having trouble, post back and I'll try to help you further.

i have a 2003 dodge neon., and car has never given me any signs of trouble., on my way home from work yesterday out of nowhere the motor shook a little bit and cut off., now it wont turn over it will crank and just keep crankin but wont turn., i have power., lights radio etc., is this my timing belt?

It very well could be. I'd pull the inspection plug, mark the timing belt, then spin it over. If the mark doesn't move, you lost the belt.

That means that the timing belt or timing belt tensioner has failed. Either way, your engine isn't going anywhere without major work. By this point, you've bent some of the valves as you tried to run the engine. The only way to fix it is to take the head off, replace the bent valves, re-grind the valve seats, replace any pistons that are too damaged to use, and replace the damaged timing set components. If you can't do this yourself, than your best option would be to get a replacement head off of a car in a junk yard that hasn't had a timing belt break. If you do that, make sure you pour a little gas in the combustion chamber of the head and make sure it's not leaking. If you can't replace the head yourself, even with a good donor, you're going to have to have a shop do it.

You have two options there. Some will recommend replacing the head with a donor like I mentioned, or they will want to just order new valves and repair the damage. Either way you're probably looking at over $250 in repairs unless you find a good cheap mechanic who can do the work without screwing you over.

I have a 2003 dodge neon I noticed that when u start to crank it it was kind of slow cranking but would start. But one day it wouldn't turn over so I hooked my jumper box to it and started right up. Drove it and the next day it would not start so I check the battery and it tested bad so I got a new battery and it won't even turn over, so I yapped on the starter and then it would try to tun over alittle bit so took the staryer out t poo be tested and it tested to be good so put it back in and it still won't start. Confused.

My 2003 Neon is literally blowing out the number 2 spark plug from the engine, it blew out so hard last week that it left a dent in the hood and chewed thru the insulation on hood. Took it to mechanic and he rethreaded plug and cylinder. Was passing another car a week later and it blew out of engine again, same plug, number 2. Got it towed back to mechanic, he drill deeper and rethreaded again. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was the cause? I have spoken with several mechanics and none of them have ever heard of this type of thing happening.
