Belt Tensioner 2003 Neon

The belt tensioner is extremely noisy, can just the pulley itself be changed? Iam having trouble locating just a new pulley.

I have a tensioner from a 2001 2.0 sohc not sure if it will fit but it only has 21,000 miles.$25 plus shipping.

I just replaced one & you need to replace the whole assembly as no one sells just the pulley.

If you have not replaced the timing belt as of yet I would say to do it then as you have to remove all the items to replace the tensioner/mount assembly.

is there any way you can remove the tentioner on a doge neon with out remving the motor????

You will have to change the entire tensioner assembly. It should be only one bolt through the base of the tensioner. As far as removing it without taking the engine out, you're best bet would be to take the engine mount bolt loose through the access hole in the passenger front wheel well. Once the engine is supported of course. When you have the main bolts loose, take the mount loose from the upper frame. When that is all loose, you can jack the engine up a bit to give you more access to the tensioner. If you want more room, take the main through bolt from the front mount. CAUTION!!! Don't jack the engine up to high or you may damage something. Also, you may need to take the air box loose from the back to get the engine high enough. the mount and all can be removed by removing the two bolts on the bottom going into the exhaust manifold.
