Just had this happen to my 2005 magnum. It has just 29,657 original miles. I took the rubber cover off directly under the ash tray you have to get a little screw driver to pop it up. Once that is out you see the two Phillips screws that you must remove. Once those are out use same little screw driver to pop up chrome bezel around the shifter and remove it. Now you must use a bigger screw driver (flat blade) to assist in getting off the shifter cover. You need to stick it down the sides between the plastic and pull up in the same area. Do on both sides at the back and both sides to the left and right of shifter knob. Once you have that off you can see the small silver cable that goes into the front pink release switch. Start the car press the brake like you are taking it out of park move the shifter to the right an use other hand p push pink tab where silver wire is. This will allow you to move your car and get you to a safe place to screw at the Chrylser people. I'm not impressed at all. Hope this helps. All you need it a Phillips and a regular screwdriver to get you going again... But you will have to repair this as it must be pushed everytime to get out of park.

Sharod and everyone else, please read my posting #79 and will find the recall number from Chrysler.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD IT FIXED, send the receipt to the address I posted in #78.
Chrysler is very responsive and is handling this problem.

My 2007 Charger locked up this morning. I had to have it towed to the dealership and now repairs, which of course is not covered by the warranty or the extended warranty that I paid over $3k for, and is costing me $485 PLUS labor and rental fees.
Anyway to make Dodge pay or reimberse me????
I had the car in the shop not even 6 months after I purchased it used because the entire computer system was fried and the mechanic at Dodge even said he would not allow me to take the car because it was extremely unsafe to drive! After 5 weeks in the shop I got it back but it never seems to run right and now this!

I have watched many videos on how to get the Dodge Magnum out of park. I am down to removing the shifting unit out of the console but it won't come out. I have removed the four bottom 10mm bolts and all ash try and cable wiring have been disconnected.
When I go to lift it up and out, there is not enough clearance between the back top of the unit and the little black plastic cross bar that is in-front of the spring-loaded cup-holder lid.
My Magnum is a factory ordered 2005, my questions is: Do some models have to have the whole console removed?????????? Thank you to anyone that can refer me to removing the little cross bar or the whole cup and console. What a pain this is. I am so happy that it happened in my driveway and not out in the Mohave desert in the middle of no where at 118 degrees. Chrysler should be held accountable for this problem: a cheap plastic part that is a pain and time consuming to get to. Thanks again to anyone with any answers. And to all you women out there, I'm 66 yrs old and if I can do this, you can too!!

If the side one didn't work that means the spring located at the front bottom area of your shifter has broken free. Your going to have to take out the entire shifter. Don't worry! It's not difficult and you won't have to reset or ruin any of the linkage settings. If you are interested, let me know. If you need me to assist you over the phone or meaging advise.

Ok guys my 06 charger got stuck in park and I took apart the entire thing and the spring was not attached so I fixed that and after I put everything back together the car would not start. It has power everything turned on but when u turn the key past on nothing happens. I got a code u0103. How do I reset the computer to communicate with the shifter box ? And info would help . Thanks.

That bites big time. My wife found the "how to do it yourself repair to avoid high delaer cost and I was able to fix it myself. Took about 30min to take out entire shifter (easy) and about an hour to repair it.
The pink tabs everyone talks about dont help at all. If the internal spring goes (which is always the problem) the tabs wont help at all. if you have someone who is hand and a set of metric sockets with an extention and a flathead screwdriver, and a pair of needle nose pliars, you're good to go. If you have any questions I'd be glad to help. Take care this whole part issue sucks.

My 2005 magnum did this Saturday night. I managed to fix it by pulling the whole shift box apart. My fix until I can retrieve the new part (which can be found on eBay for $18) is to simply keep the car in neutral....at least the shift box is easy to tear down!!

Oh and btw your looking for the pink thing at the top of the shift box not the pink one to the bottom right side....that is just a Jimmie....a pointless one that doesn't work. Tell my how dodge can not put these under recall yet they have a tool inside to fix this problem??

I had some of the same problems. I went to rock auto and they have an all aluminum piece you can buy to get rid of the junk pink piece. However my problem is the plastic piece that goes through the shifter shat itself. It has cracked and sometimes gets stuck in reverse and neutral however still goes forward. I'm not sure but think I'll have to buy the entire shifter assembly.
