Can you get it out of park by using the pink override button? If using the pink button is all you need, there's a plastic piece that comes out of that rectangular holder to the, right of the shift, for easy access to the button.

Or is it still stuck in park even when you use it. Regardless of the button, mine still wont shift out of park. Something inside the box doesn't do what it's suppose to when I press the brake. So it stays in park.

Just went through it on tuesday. Disconnect linkage cable using an 8mm socket and an 10mm deep socket with either a screwdriver adapter or rachit to remonve the four corner nuts located at each corner.

Ok after being a 24 year old woman struggling with this for the past 3 hours here's what you need to do

1. If the pink emergency release does not work that's located underneath your change holder unscrew the knob on the gear shift

2. Take chrome piece/ metallic liner around gear shift off by sticking ur key underneath an inner edge and lifting firmly upward ... Don't worry it won't break ... There's 6 snaps

3. The black panel with the P, R, N, D will be exposed, on the sides there are a total of 4 snaps use ur key again or a flathead screwdriver to lift this black panel off be careful not to break the locks but do lift firmly starting with the passenger side then driver side

4, below that there's a white snap on cover there will be the light attached you have to turn the little black notches counter clockwise on the light to release it from the white panel then continue to unsnap as previously informed for the first black panel ... This ones a little easier just pull upward and keep working with it

5. Once that's removed you'll be able to see a secondary pink piece towards the front of the steering column ... Use your flathead screwdriver, or similiar device I just used a pair of tweezers bent open ... There's a small square u should be able to fit the device into ... Push the pink device bacwards or forwards to release ur gear shift ( just wiggle it around in there in a common sense fashion and move your gear shift while doing so

i had this problem happen to me a couple of years ago and had to get mine towed to the dealer, i bought the extended warranty with my car. they told me the whole linkage needed to be replaced, i asked them if they had checked/changed the fuse? i think they said they did but it wouldnt fix the problem well the fuse blew again so my husband pbut a bigger amp fuse in it and i've not had anymore trouble with it and this has been over two years ago, so a part that would've been expensive to replace was not needed just a fuse.

The above video clips show how to fix the problem with getting stuck in park. You have to buy online a new interlatch lock. A company went ahead and made one of metal to replace the POS plastic one that comes factory installed.
I ordered the latch from http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-924-706/dp/B0049...
I have not a clue as to how to work on cars. But I can follow directions. So I found the 2 best videos showing how to install. I carefully went through everything to the minutest detail. It worked and all went great with the fix.
I spent around 20 bucks only. Had I got towed to dealer or Pep Boys, I would have been told that I need to replace the entire shifter assembly which would have been a repair/labor costing over $500. Thank goodness my intuition told me to look up the issue on the internet first when I found myself stuck in PARK randomly out of the blue one day.
In fact I recommend anyone with Charger/Magnum/Chrysler to go head and make swap out before you find yourself sitting on thumbs.

This is a great post for those out there with this problem. Even if you haven't had the problem, be proactive and do it. This is one of those fixes that is a no brainier!

Dorman is an old company that comes up with things that fix problems with original designs in all vehicles. You can go to almost any local auto parts supply and ask to look at a Dorman catalogue. NAPA is your best bet. Just take this part number with you and they will get the part, next day, if they don't have it on hand, at no extra cost. No need to order on Amazon.

Have to say congratulations on a great post, and your ingenuity! I would add only on suggestion in your #5 instruction. I am not sure it applies in all situations, but all you really need to do is find the small cable at the upper left corner.(Looks like it comes out of the dash to the shifter). That's the latch cable. Move it with your finger or a pry tool to the left, or right, and move your shifter as normal.

My 2006 Magnum is stuck in park. I pressed the pink button that's inside the gear shift box but still stuck. Is there anything else I can do?
