Ok, my husband sprayed some silicon key lube in the ignition and started it up then sprayed some more and jiggled it a bit, now it came out. we believe it was from the water in car after the rain and it froze it up.

I have a 96 Avenger ES, and my key has been getting stuck in the ignition. It starts and shuts off fine, but the ignition only turns 2/3 of the way back. I have to turn it all the way back to get the key out and it won't turn. The temperatures here in Indiana (GO COLTS!!!) have been below 0 most days, maybe this is related? Help me out!

I have a 96 ES, it does the same thing. Hot, cold, rainy, dry. Weather is not the issue, it is a mechanical one. Sometimes when it gets stuck, it comes out if I turn car back on, put it back in gear, let it roll an inch, step on brake, and then try again. Sometimes the car sits out front for a week with the keys stuck in.

I have a Dodge Intrepid 2000 and have had the ignition replaced and I still get the intermitant key not turning off. My battery went dead and had it hauled to dealership. They replaced ignition and it still is doing the same thing. It has to be the electronics that won't release the key and won't let you turn it all the waY off. I suspect a computer board. Have to duke it out with the dealer tomorrow. Meanwhile, the windows are down, the key is in, and battery is running down.

You could have serval problems, temporaryly you can remove the key. There is a hole just below the key on the steering column. It has a plastic plug in it, just use your finger nail or something with a sharp flat edge and pry it off. Then with s slinder pencil or somethng simular go into the hole and push the key release while trying to turn the key. This should release the key. Now that you have released the key, did the check engine light come on at the same time? It should have, if so have the codes pulled and go from there. |

It just happened to me. I bought a 96' dodge avenger yesterday, and this morning the key got stuck in the ignition. I did what the guy said in the earlier response. I turned the car back on put it in drive drove forward a couple inches, put it in reverse rolled backwards a couple inches , pressed the break put it in park released the break, tried again and it came out. It worked the key came out.

my 2000 intrepid did the same. new key lock didn;t help.
Now, I just reverse the proceedure of getting the gear lever out of park when I put it in park. I push the lever up and foward ( as opposed to pulling it back then dowm)- That works fine. Out comes the key! |

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. Key won't come out of ignition. Can shut on and off fine. Just bought this car and the only thing I've done that could have caused it is raised my steering wheel up and down and inserted a cd player. Any suggestions? If I can't get it out do I call a locksmith or have the ignition replaced. If I have to have it replaced, how much does that run? thanks

1 The problem with your Blazer is an electric solenoid in the steering column.Ive seen this on alot of GM poducts.Linked to a 12V source and is supposed to let the key go to off but wont. Its like the toggle button for the manual cars you know where you have to push the button in to get the key switch to go to off well this is elctrical instead of manual.Hope I helped. |

I have a 2006 ForD Focus and my key is stuck in the ignition. Does anyone know if the key has to be in a certain way. My daughter says that you should be able to see the Ford emblem that is on the key and mine is facing down. Does this matter and if it does how can I take it out.
