shifting,speddo,all are electrical.go through harness.all around famous for bad grounds.too many common grounds on dodge.better off splicing into grounds and run new ones.i just about rebilt the hole f...ing car.start under fuse box under hood.buy lots of tape heatshrink n solder,wire.when yur done you,ll never own another dodge.2 things dodge should never have built,trucks n cars.lol

I have a 96 dodge intrepid, 3.3 engine. The tranny shifts fine, however on occassion it will lock into 2nd or 3rd gear. When I shut off the car, it will reset itself and then will shift fine for a few more days...Im wondering if it is the Transmission control module, or speed sensors.

any suggestion would be helpful

So I got a 99 Intrepid about 6 mths ago and now it's starting to mess up. The check engine light is coming on and when I slow down or go to stop it's jumping out of gear and I have to pull over and re start the car. I just spent 5 hundred dollars getting the solenoid fixed and that's not the problems but that's what the code's are saying it is. Someone please tell me something. What to do? What is it?

I have pretty much the same problem and no one can tell me what is wrong with it. I'm furious.

1996 dodge intrepid--- transmission all of a sudden disengaged. I set there for a minute or three reved car then all of a sudden went into gearfor a bit ,then out. I took off a line to my tranny cooler and very little if any fluid came out the line while running. I blew threw the line with compressor, it seemed to start going into gear. the whole time especially when reving, you can hear the torque converter whining. any suggestions on this one of many problems with this car?

It had been good until recently. So many issues! My ex insisted on buying this car. I am stuck w/ it now and the repair bills. Thanks for your input. I've had it turn off while driving (scary!)- that had to do w/ the idling now the transmission is slipping - no 1st gear. I have to let my car warm up a good 10 min b/f I can drive it. My heat/ac is going (won't turn on after 40 F) and then only 1st thing in the morning! Auto door locks are messing up. Have you changed the battery yet (remove front wheel!) or the lights (remove bumper!)? Obviously this was well designed.

i have a intrepid that wont shift into second gear and when driving i can shift the shifter into any gear including revers and it does nothing

I've done so much on my 2004 Intrepid SXT the last 2 yrs, I did get it brand new from the dealer. I knew once I was done paying for the car it was going empy my pockets with repairs. The biggest job was the headgaskets! Ouch!! I had to put in a new PCM, now the car is at a transmission repair shop because I'm tired of having to pull over & restart the car. The code P9700 came up "fault immediate after shift". They are replacing the solenoid pack let's hope that's it. Ill keep u guys posted on the results! Hopefully I won't need a new tranny. I will never again get a dodge.=(

Just rolled over 300,000 on my 95 Intrepid. This car has been though hell. But just keeps on ticking. Just had to replace the solenoid in the tranny and then the Tran. control module because we couldn't get it to reset. Everything works fine except the cruise and some of the electric door locks. Guess I can't complain much. Looking forward to at least another 100,000 out it.

Well $540 later my car is out of the transmission shop, a solenoid pack did the job! yeiii!! Now on to the engine cuz I have a P300 code lets see how much this will be. What ever possed me to get a dodge? I had to replace the PCM back in March because it was bad now this is why im getting all these lovely codes comming up!

You are lucky! I guess? you give me some hope! I might keep the damm thing if I can get the check engine light off for once!

You know i have read so many pages of this forum and have not seen many success stories which in my case worries me! Ok, So here is my problem. My 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 liter engine has some transmission problems just like everyother person. First, When i go to stop in knocks forward at about 2 or 3 mph until it stops. Sorta feels like i got hit in the rear. Now, A new problem which sucks. I now can come to stop and the car wants to shut off. It does not do it everytime but at times it does it several times in one trip.(I hope it doesn't do it while moving) so after this happens i have to put my Caution Lights on and put it in park and restart it. It works sometimes like a champ after that but it does sometimes do it again. If you need more information just let me know but i was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like i have? And if there are really any success stories and you did find the problem? Thanks!

PS: Why has chrysler aka dodge not found a problem with these vehicles and told everyone by now. If these transmissions are such a problem why didnt they replace the transmissions for everyone. I thought they wanted to be known as a quality product. This isn't gonna make me buy another chrysler or dodge. They made these transmissions to be "Biodegradeable"? I think that is pointless and i also beleive that it shouldn't Biodegrade before i am done using the damn thing! Just my opinion and i am pretty sure everyone would agree with me. Any thanks for any help ahead of time!

Hey "Frustrated Girl" Can you explain to me exactly what your symptoms were? I am wondering if yours are the same as mine because i was told to change the Silenoid pack (I know i spelled it wrong lol).
But i don't know if i wanna change it considering i have also heard many unsuccessful attempts at changing it. Thanks!

Tyler... everytime I would slow down like comming of a ramp in the hwy the car would jerk & go on limp mode. No matter how much you press the gas it wouldn't go over 20 mph. This would happen even when I was stuck in traffic. I had to shut it off & turn it back on so I could bypass the problem. It was so anoying! I'm just glad I didn't mess the transmission up, I just needed the solenoid pack &it did the trick! Good luck! I like the way my car looks but they were so horribly made!

I appreciate it. My car isn't doing that. It has its own personal problems i assume. And yes they were built terrible. Anyway, I get my car checked out and my transmission torn apart tomorrow to see what the problem is tomorrow....Hopefully they figure it out.....Best part is its FREE! haha. Thank you for your help!

I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid Transmission problem, somewhat similar to the others previously listed. It works fine shifting up and down, until the car warms up, about 15 minutes. Then, about 25% of the time, after it downshifts (when slowing down, it won't shift back up through the higher gears. When I stop the car, put it in park, turn it off, then restart the car, the transmission works fine until the cycle repeats itself. Turning the car off in nuetral and restarting, doesn't help. The car needs to be in park. I have a trustworthy mechanic, and will update the group as we progress.

I had to replace the Transmission Control Module. Pretty simple job.It wouldn't reset after the solenoid repair job. Mine is fine now......Also to all those folks that have transmissions that won't shift to an upper gear. That is your tran. Control Module making your tran. go in to "limp Mode". It means something is wrong and you should get it checked and fixed. The no up shifting is not your real problem but the TMC is causing that to let you know to get your tran. checked....I just went though all this and now mine is doing great.

Of course it could be the transmission "computer" on the fenderwell area that could be loosing it's brain.
