The GN Park District is a very well run and well maintained district. Maybe there are perks that should be eliminated, but without them you may not be able to maintain your employees. I do believe that all elected Commissioners (non-employees) should not be entitled to any benefits. They should only be entitled to cost reimbursement. However, this should be settled in Albany and pushed down to all Special Districts and Goverments in NYS.

GN Park District has done it better than all the rest and don't chastise them for their willingness and ability to support a richer program than their neighbor. For many this is reason to reside in GN.

I live in Great Neck. The perks are outrageous. In addition to reporting the problem Newsday should give some information on how GN residents can correct the problem. Also the parks in GN are good. But I have seen parks in other towns that are much better.

{" But Great Neck Park District officials view that prospect with horror. They posed this question in fliers sent to some residents last month: "Do you want your parks and facilities open to everyone in the town, county and state?"

Residents are panicked by that possibility, Tamarin said. "They say,'What's going to happen when all these people come in?'"}

Yes, panicked, I'm sure. That's exactly the reaction that was desired, isn't it?

Oh the horrors! Can you imagine Great Neck/Kings Point community having to associate with people outside the area! That would just be terrible. Maybe the area should be gated to keep out the undesirables.

Give me a break.

Maybe Great Neck can make everybody feel better by importing some Drug Dealers and Gang Bangers for their parks, so they feel more like New York parks.

I don't see it as a big deal. As long as Great Neck residents aren't complaining then who cares? It's like any gated community where the residents pay the common charges. The Great Neck Residents are enjoying their ice skating rinks and indoor/outdoor tennis courts and pool etc so if you want those ammenites you can buy a house there and enjoy it also. To be fair, its not just Great Neck...just look a little further east at East Hills and you'll see another neighborhood with a beautiful pool and slide waterpark that was built last year all subsidized by their residents high taxes.

Great Neck has the best parks ( some are truly magnificent) and the best public schools on Long Island - that is why people want to live in Great Neck and buy homes in Great Neck. I pay about $500 a year in park district taxes and I believe the parks are worth every penny. Long Island has precious few communities where any of the public facilities are truly superior. Congrats to the District management for jobs well done!!

Great Neck is the only town where white people move out because of White people. The Jews are the most rude annoying, insulting people on Earth. Actually, I have to say Long Island Jews, because the Jews I knew in Upstate New York were regular nice people. I moved out because If I heard one more Yenta yelling at her pathetic wimpy husband, or heard one more complaining patron at a restaraunt I would have slapped a b itch. The problem is that they raise snot nosed brats who think the world is their playground. In the real world, they get their as ses kicked.
