Grow up. Great Neck loves its private park system. Do you have access to indoor tennis, golf, pool etc for 450 a year? It's a rich neighborhood and they are not complaining. When did it get so that we can not spend what we want to have what we want?

If the residents of Great Neck are willing to pay for then kudos to them and to hell with newsday and it's bashing stories. If I could afford it I would move to Great Neck in a second. Enjoy your beautiful parks and stop complaining everyone els.

Much worse, You nitwits at Newsday are reporting it???? The complaint is not that they have the best parks, but that those who run the special district for the park are abusing the system. Whther it is under market rents, free insurance, free vehicles or just patronage jobs in general. To ask to get paid for a golf outting - whether or not private companies do it - is abuse. To say you are on call 24/7 and thus need a free vehicle is okay if you have ever been called out after hours and you responded. In most cases emergencies that would require these people to respond at all hours of the day and night would be rare. Just pay them mileage when they get this rare 6 PM emergency.

4mer GN Parkie

My goodness! The level of envy displayed by many of the comments here is alarming. I used to live in GN and worked for the parks several years while in high school and college. They have much to be proud of. They are beautiful, and a lot of thought goes into maintaining their level of excellence. If it is necessary to provide an employeee with perks in order to keep that employee, and the residents of the district trust the commissioners to determine that they want that employee, well, then, God bless his good fortune for getting and doing the job. Newsday is trying, in vain, to generate some kind of controversy here where THERE IS NONE!! Newsday, please return to reporting news, which you used to do so well. Levae the "politics of envy" to the liberals.

WHY DOSEN'T EVERYONE GET THEIR NUMBER AND CALL THEM 24 HRS A DAY. MAYBE THEY'LL QUIT THEN. THE IDIOTS THAT LET THIS GO ON SHOULD BE RUN OUT OF TOWN. THEY PROBABLY REVELLE IN THE NOTARIETY OF THEIR PARK SYSTEM.

Oh Please

For what we pay in taxes we should all have great parks. That said, many people are forgetting one thing. No one takes a government job for the pay, you take it for the benefits. Either way the public pays... 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Great Neck politics are very interesting. They're all Democrats up there, but some are more democrat than others. They are feeding upon themselves, with one faction wanting to get control from the others. North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman wants to take over the GN Park district and open it up to the whole town so he can get control over its budget. Then he can pay for the hundreds of acres of parks he got from Suozzi. But that deal opens up the parks to all of Nassau County's residents. So regardless of what he says about keeping Great Neck Parks for Great Neck when he takes them over, they will have to be open to everyone in the entire county. Kaiman hates the wealthy Great Neckers. Just because he lives there (on his wife's family money ?) doesn't mean he is accepted by them. He will have his revenge when his buddy the county comptroller forces all the special districts out of business. Then all the Great Neck parks will either look like the bombed out county parks that Suozzi wants to dump or the rest of us will have to support them in the manner in which they are accustomed. Very interesting. The Republicans definitely screwed up some and had some minor scandals, but these Democrats have brought it to a new art form. Stay tuned.

tIt's another example of Pigs at the Troph here in Long Island. Parks should be under the control of town boards, not be a select few of overpaid commissioners. Maybe somebody in govt. will one day get a conscience and practice ethics in govt.

They can afford it
|
Hey, the people in that area, or at least most of them, can afford the taxes. And if you can't, sell your house in Great Neck and move somewhere else. Lord knows you are probably so equity rich it's absurd for you to still be there.

Nassau rips off its residents. I am sure these prick park management takes home good pay checks. I would never live in nassau, everyone in office is a screw ball, Thank God I am on the Queens side. While ppl across the street pay a higher tax, take more bullshit and my kids have the best school district(district 26) in NY

Thank you Newsday. People need to know how these towns and villages impose strict rules on the residents and no one ever has the authority to question them.
