I have 2001 Dodge Durango with 4.7 engine. I was driving on the expressway yesterday with AC on. It was working fine when all of a sudden it quit blowing. The compressor is ok and AC lines are good an cold. It is just the fan switch not working on any speed. Does any one have an idea where I should begin? I'm not a mechanic and very limited since my back surgery. Your help will be appreciated.

I am a technician at a diamler Chrysler Dealer in the area, and the problem that you describle, isn't an uncommon problem. I am assuming that your Durango has ATC(Automatic temperature control), if this is the case, it is most likely the blower motor solid state resistor module. This is located under the passenger side of the dash, held in with two 8mm bolts, and two wire connectors. It is exxisible by reaching under the dash, without taking any other parts out.

99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Over time the fan speed switch in the dash has lost speeds 1,2 and 3 and finally the other day high position 4 stopped blowing. Nothing is now blowing anywhere. Ifigured the resistor located above the passenger floor, but that did not help.
The only other thing I can think of is the actual speed switch in the dash, which, after talting to the dealership, is one unit that houses 3 swithed and the circuit board behind it.
Does this sound like it might fix it? Is there anything else in the system that could be the problem.
P.S. As I was sitting in the jeep checking to see if I had power at the speed switch and some other places, the blower kicked on for about a 1/2 second, so I know the resistor is allowing current through it./

I've a 95 Cherokee Sport, same problem except only low speed is working. I pulled the control part way out of the dash and the connector to the switch appears partly melted. It sparked a little as I rotated the switch but mostly kept at low speed until I tried working the connectors with a screwdriver and got it into 3rd. I'm trying to find a spare connector part to replace, the switch seems to work, but I'll just hardwire the 3rd position if I can't get a cheap switch. Brian wrote: 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I have a 2001 r/t and the a/c fan quit one day as well. I located the wiring harness that goes to the module you mentioned to find out someone had put a "jumper wire" to make the fan work again. That wire had just lost its connection when my fan quit. If I replace the module, the fan should work again without the jumper wire???

My blower motor doesn't work anymore. I can not get any heat to blow out. it just makes a squeaking noise every once in a while. It was working fine one day and then the next there was nothing. Any ideas?looked at fuses and they seem fine.

this is so similar to what happened in my 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The fan just stopped working, after a few days of "wiggle the switch and it will work". Ive read everything here and hope I can fix mine. All the fuses seem to work. Any other tips would be helpful. Ill come back and report my results.

I took it to the shop and it was the resistor that needed replaced, I paid $11.00 for the part and $140.00 for labor, I'm guessing just about anyone could do it by themselves....

I have a 2001 Durango R/T. The fan only worked on high. I changed the blower motor resistor card and it works fine now. It is located in the passenger foot well. The new part looks like it is more substantial and improved over the old one.

A 8mm socket and 15 minutes. You should get a partial refund or at least a freebie oil change down the road out of the dealer.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. My fan would only work on high speed. It was the resistor. I was shocked at how easy and cheap it was to replace. Good luck! Check the wire connector at the fan motor under the dash, just ahead of the glove compartment. The larger wire in this connector will heat up, causing the wire to twist the connector, making it loose on the pin. To confirm this, locate the wire connector and slightly wiggle the wires. The fan motor should start working. The fix from Chrysler is to replace the entire heating/cooling system under-dash wire harness. A temp fix is to squeeze the wire ends in the connector to make a tighter fit.

Hi I own a 2005 dodge durango slt. This morning I had the heater on full and turned the fan off when I went through the McDonald drive through. After I got my order I turned the switch back on to full, nothing. I left the switch in the on position and about 2 minutes later it all of sudden came back on. I have a forward and rear heater and a/c. The rear one is working fine. Now the front fan won't work at all. Any suggestions?
