I have the same problem with our '98 Durango. Have replaced the thermostat and did not help. Blower motor works on all speeds. Heat works better when it is not too cold out, like above 40 F, but when it is colder than that out, the air out of the vents comes out cool to luke warm at best. Does anyone have any other ideas?

that i don't know. i felt the heater hoses and they both seemed hot like there is flow through them, but i am not sure if they are as hot as they should be.

i am wondering if it is a damper problem, does anybody have any info on how to check the dampers to make sure they are functioning properly for each given control setting?

Same problem with '98. Replaced thermostat, back-flushed the heater core and topped up the coolant and it seemed to work better for a few days, but now not so good. Hasn't been cold enough to know for sure, but my 2005 Chev p/u heats up faster and gets much warmer.

same problem with my 98 :( after trying a new thermostat, I was told it must be my water pump so to the tune of $265 (I am stationed in Germany) I still have no heat!! Help!

does you car over heat as well?? if it does there is a good chance that it is your thermostat. because it the thermostat is blocking the water from getting to your heater core then you will get no air. also check for water underneath the heater core to make sure it is not blown. hope this helps

My 98 does the same thing you all mentioned. It's not the thermostat or radiator. It only heats up when it's idling then goes cold again. Any suggestions? What about the heater core maybe?

I have the same problem with my '99 durango. I had all ac components replaced and it does not cool correctly. My heat does not wor well at all either. I have to let my truck run for 20-30 min. before I get any heat. My thermostat has been replaced (180 degree thermostat)and this did not help at all. any suggestions would be appreciated

Ugh, my 98 Durango has the same symptoms as everyone else. Replaced the thermostat, the water pump, I smell no bismarks, lol, so I would figure that the heater core is good. I am going to try to back flush the heater core since that worked for one person on here but a guy at work told me to bleed the air out. I'm not sure how to do that and the only thing I saw online for doing this is to park the truck on an incline, take off the radiator cap, and run it to see if the water goes down and keep filling it til the air is gone. I am hoping this helps me and everyone else out for heat... it's very cold here in Minnesota without heat and a half hour drive to work each way.

Hi,
I have had this problem just recently with my 99 durango slt. Its been about a month and a half and it wasnt blowing any warm/hot air at all. Took it to dealer and they replaced thermostat....still no heat. Then they found my belt on water pump was loose and fixed the tension on it..now it seems to be a hint better, at least I am getting hot (real hot!) air SOMETIMES when I accelerate ONLY. At idle, it is still lukewarm to cool. I am taking it in again trmw and they are checking the water pump..I will make sure they check/flush the heater core as mentioned on these posts. I will keep you all posted on tomorrows visit.

We have brought the 98 Durango to the Shops over 7 times for no heat. The Car dealership out of good faith brought the Durango to an Actual Dodge Dealership and had thrown more than 2 grand into the Durango. So far, All the Next mentioned things have been replaced: Heater Core, Blend Doors, Vacuum Lines, Thermostat, Radiator, Waterpump and all Heater Hoses. The only things not replaces have been the Dials in which the heat is controlled. STILL NO HEAT. The dealership Technicians are now looking into seeing if the Engine itself has an obstruction in the channels that move Antifreeze through the engine called "water jackets" but to this point... No heat and each and every 'technician' is stumped. Its a losing battle.-Paul
