Ihave a 1998 Dodge Durango. Was driving on freeway then all of a sudden it would not accelerate. I coasted it into a gas station and went to put it in park. It rolled when in park. Any ideas?

Chris wrote: I have a 2006 Durgano Limited with Hemi... I am having a similar issue, last week, I felt the transmission slip.. But it also makes a "griding" sound.. Only in intervals, I took it to the shop, they said it may be a piece of plastic in the exhuast system.. I still think it is tied to the tranmission.. Confused.. Did you figure out the problem with your transmission? I am having the same issue with my 06 hemi

I also have a 2006 hemi had issues in July with Trany they changed fluid and filters and reset engine light. Then used it the other day it was fine then went to use it a few hours later hit the gas and it was like it was in neutral. The check engine light came on again. Brought it in and they said it is 1 or 2 valve sections of the trany which as of July 1st isn't covered under warranty anymore NICE will cost 1700.00 to fix. But I refuse to pay for it because it's still an issue with the same area of the car it's still a transmission issue thats why I am here reading these posts so I can have some ammo to use for arguing about the trany issues everyone else is having. Anyone else have this problem????? Please email me at CDEMJS5@AOL.COM THanks

'99 Durango SLT 5.2 Auto 140k miles...
I purchased it from a used-car lot which was a terrible idea. Looked over their service records, took it for a test drive, ran great. About two months after I bought it, the transmission started behaving odd. It would not shift into third gear and would sometimes buck. This problem occurred whether or not it was in overdrive. I took it to my mechanic where he flushed the fluid and replaced the filter and transmission gasket (this was in August '09). The truck ran great until two weeks ago when the transmission began to do the same thing again.
I made another appointment with the local shop to look at it. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle so hopefully that will cover all repairs. The funny thing is, when the dealer bought the truck at a car auction, they also had transmission problems. I believe their tech said it was related to the speed governor. Rather than repair it, he put in another used transmission. I'm starting to wonder if this is an electrical problem, or if I'm going to have to rebuild or replace the transmission. If that's the case, what should I do about the transfer case, torque converter, etc?

It has happened on warm days with AC running and typically on inclines (albeit slight). If I park it and let it cool down it works fine. Any suggestions? did you figure this out, I have the exact same problem with my 2001 durango

Torque Converter self destructed. Dodge (under warrenty) replaced the TQ Converter, planetary gears, pump, seals and gaskets.

szim wrote: Does anyone know where the shaft automatic trans Sensor goes on a 2000 Dodge Durango? I bought one yesterday ($54.11) after I took my car to Autozone. I heard a clunk sound from the trans. and then the check engine light came on. So I took it to Autozone and they hooked up there electronic gadget under my dash and found out that my car was having a Automatic Trans. shaft sensor malfunction. But now I can't find out where it goes. My book doesn't show where. . Most speed sensors are on the side of the transmission case.

I have a 98 dodge durango that is giving me trouble. It doesn't want to shift out of 1st and 2nd gear. I have to put it in neutral to get it to shift. Also, yesterday as I was driving, it kept shutting off. Does anyone know what could be causing this??

Whirring sound from torque converter area. Towed to Dodge, Filter / Fluid check good, no debris. Dodge is in-process o of disassembly of tranny now. Mech stated "I have No idea" Did you ever find out what happened to the tranny?

Chris wrote: Who knows anything about transmissions and sensors for Dodge Durango? Have a 2005 Dodge Durango with 73,000 miles. Went out to go somewhere the other morning and it wouldn't shift gears from where it was parked. It is an automatic. It was snowing and cold so thought it just needed to warm up. When I went back to out to try it went in reverse then when I put in drive went about 2 feet and then wouldn't go. Sounded like it was in neutral. It will shift into 4wd, Park, and neutral. Went out later that night and it shifted into drive so I could at least pull it up out of the middle of the driveway. Had no problems driving it earlier in the week. Is it possible it is a sensor rather than the whole transmission needing replaced? Clueless.... I have a '06 with a 4.7L. we were driving down the street and hit a speed bump "normally" and the truck stopped pulling and the engine revved up but wouldn't go; towed it back and scanned it with a code tool got a code: P0841 transmission fluid press. sensor /switch, I replaced the press. switch ($75.00), went back in to the ECM and cleared the code ,started it up and still the same. So I decided to change out my fluid and filters(2-on the 545RFE), drained the oil pan and I reached up to take the retaining screw out for the flat filter and the filter fell out with the filter seal attached; (not supposed to do that), changed them out and reinstalled the new seal, that went in really tight;refilled everything and the truck runs and shifts like before. If this doesn't fix the problem then get it scanned and as one guy told me you might have the front transmission fluid pump go out and that were it gets expensive ,but they have the tools to check line pressure. hope this helps.

I have a 2006 Durango with 76,000 miles on it. It feels like the transmission is slipping, it does it mainly in the morning. Could it be a sensor?

I have a 2006 Durango with 545RFE tranny.
Started acting up like it was slipping and went into safe Mode 3rd gear only..No 4th to 2nd Kickdown when i hit the accelerator......
Hooked up my handy dandy code reader; P0700 Trans Control System malfunction....then P0876 Trans solenoid or Gov pressure sensor switch "D".
Regular maint fluid / Filter Changes 46K miles.
Probably a problem in Solenoid Pack....I am praying it is just the sensor!???? I will update when the tranny is opened up.

I have a 2001 Durango with 140,00 miles. Transmission pump went out and cost me $1700 at dealer for repair. They said that was all I needed. Boy were they wrong! Didn't know it then, but I also needed a torque converter. Drove it less than 500 miles and now I must spend another $3500 or more (who knows) for a new transmission and installation. Should have traded it in when I had the chance, but didn't want another car payment.
