Hello My name is David and I have some questions regarding the troubleshooting of the electric fuel pump on my 95 Dodge Dakota Sport. Let me begin by what i've done and what the truck is not doing. The Fuel pump is not coming on for a few seconds like it should when I turn the ignition to on.I replaced it about a month ago after I found the Gas tank all gunked up and full of fouled gas. Like I said the pump was replced and the it began to work but shortly after while I was addresing other issues (Crank Position Sensor) it stoped coming on. The Crank Position sensor is just basically in the gromet since apparently the previous owner got a new shor block and not the proper one for this engin and the mounting holes are not on there.
I really need some help on this one.
Thank You

check for short in wiring harness going too black plastic box containing relays and buss fuses by battery, the problem is 3 wires spliced and soldered in the harness that is suseptable to corrosion, they are red with a white stripe. They control power to the auto shutdown relay the fuel pump and the ignition coil.

does the truck idle at all when you start it up if not ,have someone feed the truck gas while you try to start it ,make sure you get spark before you do this ,also i had the same problem on an 89 ford [yeah a ford ] ranger .it had water in the tank not much but enough to get into the fuel filter and make it run like crap .another problem could be the inserta switch .it is a cut off switch for the fuel system i dont know if a dodge has one it would be under the pasanger side seat of the truck in the floor board make sure it is pressed in , it cuts off in collisions and what not so no fuel keeps pumping .also try the fuel pump relay .sorry niot trying to confuse you start with the cheep stuff first and good luck .[CHUCK] try the coil packs if dodge trucks have them or that model does that could be the problem it gets to hot shuts off then wort start back up because its too hot

Question for you ladies and gents... I have a 93 Dakota L4 153 manual... I just replaced the head gasket and since then I have been having problems getting the truck to start when cold. If the outside temp is aroun 40 degrees, the truck starts perfectly, however around 35 it will start, but acts like it isn't getting gas until the engine itself warms up, then again runs fine. If the outside temp is below freezing, the truck will not start at all. I found a vacuum line going to the throttle body that was cracked, and I replaced it, the truck ran fine for a week, then started the problem again. I can't find anything wrong with any of the vacuum lines now and I'm at a loss as to what could be causing it. I've heard everything from a bad 02 sensor to a bad coil, but will these things cause problems that ONLY exist during cold temps? Please email me at TechnoTherapist@gmail.com if you think you may know a resolution. Thanks in advance for your time and trouble!

I have a 94 Dakota. I have to leave it sit for awhile then I can start it. The when you shut it off...no matter what distance traveled. It won't start again for another 10 minutes. It tries to start.....but only kicks a couple times and then just cranks over. It has new fuel pump installed.Fuel shut off relay has been changed and its ok. the coil jumps a spark 1/4 inch with no problem. Voodoo maybe??

I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota. Looks like over night it will not idle. I have to hold the brake and slightly accelerate to keep the motor from dieing. Seems to have power after you get going, but will die at stop sign or starting out. Thanks

Turns out to be the Pick up coil under the Distributor cap...some call it "camshaft position sensor"...others call it "pick up coil" or I even heard it called a "Switch" Bla bla bla...it was broke...and a simple scan tool worth $5000 bucks to tell me this. I miss carburetors :-( Plus my fuel pump was heating up when you get to 1/4 tank.(an in tank type fuel pump)A firtst warning sign when your fuel pump is about to go....when it its 1/4 tank it will heat up slightly to make it run lousy. Then you fill your tank again ..fuel pump cools and its fine again...Till you get to 1/4 tank again...so I replaced it too....two problems here.

My 2001 Dakota 4.7, automatic won't start after hearing a sudden pop under the hood. Now when I turn the key on, a strange clicking sound comes from under the engine compartment fuse box and the throttle position sensor hums. I think the fuel pump relay is mounted under the fuse box but it might be the auto shutdown relay. Any ideas out there?

i have a 1993 dodge dakota sport and i was wondering if anyone could help me my truck doesn't run currently i thought it was the ignition coil and i got a new one i also needed a new distributor cap so i replaced that. along with the pick up and the rotor. I got my wire tester out and checked the voltage going into the ignition coil. there is no spark from the coil so i know its something to do with the wiring. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone have wiring diagrams the show the actual voltage that i can use to slice in.
