The headlights on my '99 Dakota won't go on anymore. At first I could flash the high beams on and off again, and the low beams would stay on. That doesn't work anymore, and I can only flash the highs, as they won't stay on. Any ideas?

Try replacing the headlight switch. Don't forget to unhook the battery. Those damn computers are super sensitive toward any electrical surges.

Can you tell me why when I turn on the headlights, the dash lights don't work unless I beat on the dash, then they come on and stay on till I shut the truck off.

Your problem sounds like the headlight switch, but I'm guessing you tried that.

Similar problem on my 2000 Dakota, when going from brights to dim, the lights go out. I flash my brights to get the dims to illuminate. I was told to disconnect my trailer wires and it worked for a bit. I also removed the factory fog lamps and my problem hasn't reoccurred since then. I was hoping for a recall.

Have a 2000 dakota that was in a small acident. For some reason the passenger side headlight is dimming in high or low beam. Found no pinched wires. Headlight goes completely out when drivers side headlight is removed. Any Ideas?

I have an 03 Dakota and had a problem with my drivers side headlight, in addition my drivers power door lock did not work either. On a day it was working I traced the clicking sound to a black box located behind the plastic covering attached to the wall of the truck down by the drivers left foot. The plastic covering is hard to get off but once I did I jiggled the wires to this black box and wham everything worked. I've had to access this box on a few occasions to adjust the wiring and got everything to work. Saved me time and money to fix it myself.

Have 2003 Dodge Dakota with 82000 miles. Lost headlights, dash lights, power locks, carge light and keyless entry. We're still troubleshooting. If we find the cause, we will post here. In the meantime, any advice?

Lost additional power: wiper delay. Also "service 4-wheel drive" light came on.

Discovered the culprit is the "central timing module". Chrysler dealer quoted $350.

Any luck yet? I'm having the exact same problem and I haven't got a clue what is wrong.

Have the same problem with my 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, Problem started in this extreme heat weather we are having, When Vehicle sits in heat all day, Keyless Entry, Headlight Flicker or won't work and dash do the same, after sitting all night and it cools back down everything works until the interior gets hot again, I am thinking maybe it is the keyless entry module or what ever module is used to kill the headlight power in the event of headlight being left on and the timer cuts them off after 15 minutes, am looking for this module or what ever it is called. Any other Ideas, Email- Micwilliams@truvista.net, thanks

Ok Guys found the problem to my keyless entry, lights flickering and no lights at all. Central timimg module was the culprit, fixed it myself for around $235.00 but have to get the keyless entry reprogramed.

Flashing lights, door locks not working. 2003 Dodge Dakota, V8, quad cab. Just experienced a problem with the lights, door locks, interior lights. The lights would flash/flicker and the door looks would not work. I discovered this would happen when the interior of the truck heated up. Traced the problem to the Central Timing Module. The problem was a defective 300MFD 63volt Capacitor on the CTM board. The part cost $1.29 at the electronics store. Much cheaper than a new board.

You can prove it is a heat problem by testing the module on a cool morning when everything is working. Remove the module from the housing re-connect the cables and use a hair dryer to heat the capacitor. If the lights start flashing and the locks stop working, replace the capacitor. It took me about an hour and I saved a bunch.

The module is behind the driver’s side kick panel and is held in place by 3 screws. The capacitor is a cylinder shaped unit close to the cable connectors on the board. It is clearly marked with 330uf 63v. The panel is easy to remove and requies no tools.
