Recently, when I turned on my headlights, my lights did not come on only the parking. I turned the switch several times making sure it was set to headlights. One time I switched them on and they kind of flickered a couple of times, then stayed on. Im not sure what it could be, possibly a short somewhere or a bad switch. I did have a burnt out rear signal, not sure if that is related or not, but I did replace that and checked my fuses to make sure everything was good and my headlights been coming on since then. But we'll see if it happens again. any thoughts or any other people expereince the same, feedback would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having the same problem with my Grand caravan 05 and right now am taking it to the dealer as it is covered under extended warranty. I will let you know what happens.

Indeed, my 2005 Grand Caravan's headlights have started to do the same thing but when traveling down the freeway at night they also turned-off several times on their own.

Had it into my mechanic for a couple of days and because it's intermittent they have not been able to find the source of the problem. They don't believe it's the switch (yet).

Pulled it out of the shop without it being fixed yet. Will be great to hear if others have found the solution.

My 05 town and country is doing the same thing. If I turn it off and on enough times, it usually stays on, but I need this fixed. Has anyone successfully fixed this problem (what did it take)?

I think it might be related to the "thingy" (Technical term) that makes the head lights stay on for 10-20 seconds after you turn off the car when driving with the headlights on.

I have a part time job delivering pizza in the evenings and I have just left the headlights on instead of turning them on/off every time because I am afraid they won't turn back on.

I also renewed my towing coverage just in case. I figure when it does go out, That's when I can take it in to get fixed.

I believe it's the switch as it's now deteriorated to more often and if you wiggle the switch back and forth it'll come back on. I'm 98% sure it's the switch however before buying one for $100+ and replacing it I want to see if it can be cleaned.

Will post a follow-up when I've found time to do see if it can be cleaned or if I've changed the switch.

Ok, I couldn’t wait for the weekend to fix the car as my wife needs to drives it, so reading some of the forums it confirmed my theory, the issue is with the switch, so I took it a part this morning and I found out that the internal nub was set to -1 “within the switch there is white nub that turns to 4 positions I would call them -1 , 0, 1, 2” and the nub should always be set to position 0, mine for some reason was set to -1, I’m not a mechanic so excuse the terms that I’m using here “hence -1, 0, 1, 2”.

Position definition
-1 Park lights on
0 No lights on at all
1 Park Lights on
2 All lights on, including the headlight’s

So, set it to 0, then put the other side of the switch back on, and put it back together and that should be it.

That worked perfect for me, if that doesn’t work for you then you need to get a new switch.

This shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes max.

Good luck to all.

Thanks,
Mike.

Pulled switch, easy enough. Cleaned contacts as best I could but they are difficult to reach. As previous poster indicates, there's a "cam" that bumps 3 contacts as you move from parking lights to lights and on some models probably the fog lights. When I reinstalled it the lights would not work at all!

Side note: If you pull the indicator/blinker lever toward you and hold it, the lights will come on albeit the brights! Drove it home in this condition, works in an emergency.

Ordered new switch from dealer @$50. It comes with headlight switch, instrument panel dimmer switch and new face plate. Works great again.

Done.

2005 Caravan I had the same problem with my van gauges bouncing, headlights not coming on when the switch was turned on. I took a day and downloaded a wiring diagram from dodge and studied it. GROUND PROBLEM dodge have several ground connections to the body then there is one MAIN BODY GROUND. This is most likely your problem it is easy for any back yard mechanic to fix. This main body ground is located under your battery box. You will have to remove the battery and then the battery box be careful of the battery sensor that is mounted in the bottom of the box. Also there is a hose that you will have to disconnect but don’t try to remove it from the box remove it from above the box. After you get the battery and box out you will see a threaded stud with a black wire connected to it this will be rusted because of no antioxidant grease applyed. You will have to remove the nut and wire connector clean both and the stud with wire brush or sandpaper. Put antioxidant grease or if nothing else some Vaseline to keep it from corroding again. Put back together and see if this doesn’t fix your problem. It has been six weeks for me now. Good luck.dont forget that neg battery terminal is the first one to disconnect and the last to reconnect.

I recently purchased a 2005 Dodge Caravan w/42, 000 miles. I had it inspected by a mechanic before purchasing and everything checked out okay. On my second time driving at night, the headlights didn't work. Parking lights and brights worked. I kept playing with the switch, but nothing helped to make the lights come on. I ended up driving home on the freeway with just my parking lights (luckily I didn't have far to go). I got home and googled the problem and found this website.
I then called the salesman who sold me the vehicle and he told me to bring it in the next morning and they'd have their mechanic look at it. Before I left the following morning, the lights were working again. But when I drove to the used car lot, and the mechanic looked at it, the lights DIDN'T work. Then a little later, they worked again. The mechanic seemed to think that maybe some Armour All leaked into the switch...but suggested I keep an eye on it that evening to see I'd have any problem (I was planning a 4-hour trip a couple days later and would be driving home in the dark).

That was about 2 weeks ago, and so far the lights have been working fine. But it still makes me nervous knowing they could go out at any time. I'm a widow and most times I drive alone. And sometimes I drive with my 3 young grandchildren in the van.

I just made a complaint with nhtsa.gov . THEY NEED TO BE FLOODED WITH COMPLAINTS so that a possible recall can be issued! This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM that needs to be addressed!!! I only saw 3 complaints on their website--come on people, file a complaint!!!
