The dissident group Autoworkers Caravan has filed a petition with the United Auto Workers on behalf of Chrysler Group LLC skilled-trades workers, appealing the union's decision to ratify its new contract with the automaker over their objections.
While a majority of UAW members voted in favor of the new contract last week, a majority of skilled-trades workers voted against it. Union rules require contracts to be ratified by both skilled trades and production workers, but UAW leaders meeting in closed session voted to overturn that veto and sign the agreement.
"We feel it is time for the UAW to recognize that when you cast a vote it means something," said George Windau, a worker at Chrysler's Jeep plant in Toledo. "We were not asked why we voted 'no.' Our voices need to be honored and heard."
The UAW has said it will deal with any challenge to that decision through its own internal appeals process.
Windau and the other 226 signatories to the petition are asking that the new contract not be finalized until the union hears their appeal.

Having your vote overturned blows. You can bet it meant more money for the UAW to get it settled early. Remember when the union used to "serve" rather than "dictate?"

We need to take a stand, no one voted no because of the money as they would have you to belive, it was to protect our jobs that they want to take away. They can keep there token money

I'm glad the union finally are not letting lazy unskilled paper readers run this company in the ground. Now the company must take action and make them work instead of reading, sleeping and hiding and set up a rotation system so there is no overtime for them. Make them sweep the plant or fill in on production lines. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

nice try, but remember what you first wrote, they petioned the UAW, already gonna be turned down, the UAW is showing it's true colors, and it ain't pretty, they are selling out the older workers and they are giving crumbs to the newer ones, they are not representing us anymore, they only want to protect their income (union dues and VEBA Billions) i'm sure they will get their hands on the pension plan too, just watch, P.S. Why would anyone in the transplants ever want to join the UAW after they see how they have represented us, i'm not anit union, i'm becoming anti UAW

You probably wanted to be a tradesman but couldn't pass the test or didn't have the mechanical skills to do the job so you will bad mouth them to the end, you jealous person you

It just goes to show you that even if the contract had been voted down they would have tossed your voice into the crapper, why even vote?? Seems communistic if you ask me and if you ask me I'd be willing to bet that the contract was voted down and they fudged the numbers to make it seem like the majority voted yes, but the UAW would never do anything like that would they now,LOL

The days of lazy trades to run the show are over, their numbers are twindling lower and lower. Multi- task is coming before next contract, they will be manning the lines when not busy ( which is all the time ). HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Kep 72. Your comments are useless and do nothing but attempt to inflame an already tense situation.
Like others who use this site as a good source of information. I wish you would just shut the he'll up unless you have something of importance to say.
The vast majority of skilled workers are very knowkedgeable and sincere in their work habits. They deserve to be heard and have their votes count.
This contract should not be ratified until all votes are counted. Not just the ones that were for this mess.

Kep72 demands attention that is why he posts what he does to invoke a reaction so he will get the attention he would otherwise not get. He is a puppy dog in an old mans body which is quite obvious and he can hide behind his hahahah's all he wants but in the end he doesn't have much to offer to this forum except insults and mud slinging, think about it

I speak the truth and skilled trades don't like it, they will be working more in the coming years or their jobs will be replaced. The end of doing nothing and overtime on the weekends are coming to an end by 2015. HAHAHAHAHA

Like it or not, kep is right. The trades have spent years showing the corporation how ineffective they are.

On a side note. I didn't see the trades sticking up for anyone when regular hourly lost their classifications.
