If you took the buyout from BAP and are collecting unemployment, I heard that you will have to pay unemployment back, once they catch up with you.

Well then the IDES will have several lawsuits because they are the ones that stated severance pay does not exclude anyone from unemployment.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss this. Here in Kokomo Indiana representatives from the state stood right in our local 685 union hall and told our membership that they could take buy-out, go to school and collect unemployment. They collected very little and then were told that it was a mistake - that they couldn't really get unemployment and that they also had to pay back the few benefits they got. What a kick in the stomache for these people! Many would have never taken the buy-out if they hadn't been lied to by the state. Indiana is horrible about benefits. Our local is still trying to help these people protest the state's decision.

JEALOUS??? Not at all! I could have taken buyout, but chose not to. But I do know someone that took buyout from BAP and got unemployment for a little while, then was denied and told they were ineligible because they voluntarily gave up their job, and would have to pay back the money they had gotten already. Just trying give everyone the heads up!

i know alot of people from bap who took the buy out in march of 2008 and they are still getting unemployment and other ones who are taking advantage of the dislocated worker program who get their education paid. There was a comment on another topix and people were told that the only states that could get unemployment with buyout is Missouri and Illinois.

i think it depends on if you were working when you take or you were on permanent layoff.
if you where alleady out of job how could you of quit one you just gave up rights and benifits but if were still going to work everyday and had a job and took it that a diffrent story.

I am from Michigan, took the buyout in 2008, and was told by the state that I was also eligible for unemployment money after taking the buyout. I was already on layoff when I took the buyout. It was later denied and everyone who received money must now pay it back. I applied for a waiver for the back restitution and it was granted because I did not lie to UIA and because it would be a hardship to pay it back. The $62,0000 I received after taxes does not last long if you pay off some on your house and get a car.(we got the $100,000 buyout with no car voucher). Good luck to all. The 18 month allocation period that Chrysler put on the buyout money is now over and I am going to try to collect unemployment now. Don't know if I will get it, but I surely can't find a job!!!

Missouri worked out a deal with Chrysler in Nov 08 ,when St.louis south plant people took the buyout, there was a lot of them. They continue to draw unemployment a year later. Granholm and the rest of Michigans politicians is the problem. When she gets out of office there won't be job left in that state.

Well the person started out collecting in Illinois , but later moved out of state. That's when this person was denied. I guess it depends on the state. But I know everyone here in Illinois doesn't seem to have a problem collecting.

best thing to do is don't lie and keep all documentation. Ask a lawyer who knows the laws of unemployment.
