Of all the Jeeps, the Liberty is my least favorite, I just dont like the 3.7 L PowerTech V6 in it... and it does come with a 4-speed automatic
or 6-speed manual but the NEW liberty, does not have any look appeal either...

Did you ever find out what the problem was? I have the same problem!
I have a 2006 Liberty Limited and thus far, I like it quite a bit. I have noticed a similar characteristic with this truck in certain circumstances. I think to a degree, the things like anti roll mitigation, electronic stability control/etc cause some wierd actions that people mistake for problems. When accelerating if I hit a bump (not a seam in the pavement, but a bump), it activates either the anti-roll or the esp and for a brief moment, it cuts the power (either by cutting ignition or fuel). I have learned to drive differently and know if I hit a bump to immediately let up and gas it again. All these sytems are so complex. If on slippery surfaces, the esp automatically "pulses" the front brakes. To my disapointment, doing "donuts" in the snow in a Liberty is not a good thing to do, because the front brakes pulse on and off alternately trying to "right" the vehicles action. All the sensors, programming, etc to operate these things has to affect a lot of other things.
Anyway,
that is my 2 cents.

Lisa, I just had this same exact problem with my 03 Liberty (55,500 miles), and the transfer case switch had to be changed. I took it to the dealer because I did not know what the problem was and thought they'd be most likely to have the parts. They said the transfer case switch was not under warranty, which does not sound right to me, and they insisted even when I questioned them. Was your switch covered under warranty? Anyone else have this problem?
Lisa, I agree that I would not have the dealer perform this repair, and I doubt that it's really that badly damaged. They tried to tell me that the front and rear differential fluids need to be changed, that they didn't know who had been "messing with" the car last, but that it looked like the wrong fluid. I informed them that no one had changed that fluid, and I bought the car brand new from a Jeep dealer. So they said it just must be dirty. haha! Dealers are a rip off.

My local mechanic told me that while replacing the transfer case switch (because my part-time 4WD light was turning on while lever was down and off when lever was up- backwards) they said I need a new drive shaft because the companion flange was damaged. This will total $1000. Does this sound right with 100,000 miles?

I have a Jeep Liberty limited 2002 - one rear window fixed in 2007. Now I should expect the other one to go huh.:)

Question, how long should a Jeep Liberty Radiator last - my 2002 just bit the dust going into 2008. Is this the average life of a jeep radiator?

My wife has a 2003 Liberty Renegade and thus far we have had only one problem with it (Water Pump) which was repaired under warranty.

My wife loves this truck but it gets awfull gas mileage.

IMPORTANT!!

Have your oil pressure checked by a certified mechanic with a gauge that can record the pressure changes while they drive it. Sometimes the backflow valve on the oil pump can fail and the pressure will come up enough to keep the light off when you accelerate and then drop way off when you let off the gas. listlen closely for ANY "ticking" noise comming from the engine when it is idleing in park. Especially when it's cold. You may need to replace the Oil pump. GLTY

If there is a problem with the oil pump, You don't want to keep driving it like that. It can seriously damage the engine! Been there Done that! Cost way more in the end than it should have.

Twice I've had my Jeep Liberty in the shop for the same back window regulator breaking down. The repairs were 12 months apart. Would you think Chrysler might offer a recall on these faulty regulators, which by the way are very expensive. I don't even use the back window and it has broken twice. Go figure.

Just found this board, and it looks like a lot of people are having the same crappy problems that I'm having. I bought my '03 used and got an expensive bumper-to-bumper warranty (which appears to cover almost nothing when needed).

3 times I've had it in for window regulators, 2 on the same window. Both back windows, which almost NEVER get used, WTF? Now the other back window is broken again! I've given up and jammed it in the up position.

Cigarette lighter won't work, only $200 to fix it, of course not covered in the warranty.

I'll never buy another Jeep again!

I believe there is a fraud being orchestrated within Chrysler. I have a 2007 Liberty which has stalled irregularly since the first day we got it. Took it back to the dealer 4 times. Each time they say in the work order that they cannot find a problem. Chrysler has told me to take the car back to the dealer and have them repeat the steps already taken, including installing another "star mobile" unit, which is supposed to read all car functions at the time it stalls. However, a mechanic at the dealer informed me that he is aware of a problem with my car, and so is Chrysler. He would not tell me what the problem is out of fear of losing his job. He said, "we could put a hundred star mobiles on your car and it will never show the problem. You need to take this up with Chrysler and don't tell them where you got the information." I am in the process of suing them.
I was wondering it you ever found out what was causing your jeep to stall. I just bought an 06 liberty 2 weeks ago, I washed it last week, it started stalling, I took it back to dealer, they found nothing wrong, today it stalled in the middle of busy street, it would not start, It was raining out, so once again it was getting wet. I had to have it towed 30 mile away to the dealer, still no answers, I was told it started right up for them. so now I have a jeep liberty I can only drive in dry weather, and I can not wash it.

Thanks, Tracey Dalo

My beautiful 2003's transmission went for the 2nd time in 2 months. Amy's tranny was PUT IN WRONG AND JEEP PUT IN THE WRONG TRANNY FLUID.

They have ruined my baby.

I have had little issue with this truck- it is my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I do have the whoo-whoo sound in the front that Lisa Hammond describes.

I just want my baby back!

I have a 2003 jeep liberty sport 4x4(65,000) and i've been experiencing a front end shake when the brakes are applied. i thought it might be the tires so i bought 4 new tires and still shaking and was told i needed an alignment so i got the alignment done and its still shaking and i was surprised to hear by a mechanic friend of mine that most libertys come off the factory mis-aligned! well my question is has anyone experienced the same problem? and if so is there a solution?(other than selling the Jeep...haha)

My 2007 Jeep Liberty was just brought in to the garage for the broken front passenger's side window on Friday. Sunday, the rear passenger's side window fell down into the door by itself. It has less than 13,000 miles on it. FYI, I should have know better since my 03 Jeep Liberty had the same problems with the window regulators (3 times replaced rear drivers and 1 time the rear passengers) and my 98 Eagle Talon had both windows fail. I will be contacting Jeep/Chrysler to express my frustrations and I suugest that everyone else do the same. Maybe they can be recalled some day?

I just began having this problem. I've read that the wire that connects the sending unit to the pcm wears through, causing the speedometer to fail and the check engine light to come on. Has anyone heard anything about a possible recall, as this seems to be a widespread problem?
