You have to notify the unemployment office that you are attending school, and then they will start sending you claim forms. You'll have to fill it out, making sure you check yes on attending school or training, both you and your instuctor will need to sign it. Mail it in and your done. You'll need no work search contacts as long as you're not out of school more than a week.

Once you start school, you swithch to TRA You draw your unemployment benefits till they run completly out for that claim, including the Fed extension even while you are in school. Then you switch to TRA. Then, once you are able to open another claim with the unemployment office, you switch back to unemployment and the TRA $ stops, then when you exhast all the unemployment from that claim, the TRA starts again. This was all explained by a TRA consoler at the career center 2 weeks ago.

I meant up to a maximum of $57.00 a day TRA will give you, not a week. WIA is $25.00 a week though.

I am only driving 22 miles round trip and will receive $25.00 a week from WIA. You will need to make an appointment with the WIA person at your career center to sign up for it.

as long as you maintain at 12credit hours per semester (which is considered full time status) you are entitled to recieved tra money. in order to recieve tra, you have to first use up all your unemployment money. then the tra kicks in. as long as you maintain your full time status (and at least 6credit hours over the summer) you will recieve the tra for the entire 2years you are in school. once youre in school, when you call unemployment, you enter the option that youre in school. thats it. no work search contacts. you have to report to your benefits coordinator once in awhile to let them know that youre alive. i dont know about the grades or classroom attendance stuff. im gonna find those things out when i report next week. but in short...govt pays for you to go to school for 2years and the govt pays you pt work ($320week) while youre in school :) life doesnt get much better than this. this is how its in missouri. states are different, so i would suggest you contact your unemployment office (or whatever they call it now) and find out.

My understanding is that it is $5 a day from WIA if it is less than 50 miles EACH WAY, not round trip. That is what I was told and what I have been getting. I drive about 47 miles each way.

I'd like to know how they expect you to maintain 6 credit hours during the summer. St. Charles Community College already has a list of classes needed per semester (for 4 semesters to achieve the associate degree). I'm taking 16 credit hours this coming semester. None of the classes for the 2nd semester are offered during the summer. There will possibly be one class they will schedule for the summer, but it's only 2 or 3 credit hours (not 6 as stated in the above post). Also, one counselor at St. Charles' career center told me I didn't need to take classes during the summer...but....I know that we were told at one time there could be no more than a 30 day break in the schooling in order to be considered full time student. So, who do we believe?

I drive about 47 miles each way. Well maybe I misunderstood them then, but the WIA lady told us at the meeting we had that if we drove more than 50 miles round trip not to go with the WIA, to go with the TRA because you got a lot more, she said you could only get the driving allowance from one or the other, but like I said, maybe she told us wrong or I misunderstood her. I will try to find out for sure tomorrow.
