hey well i got a 1997 sebring and before i go spending money on a new transmission would like to know what yall think. the problem is that sometimes it shuts off and then it will restart again with no problem and when im driving it will also die. when driving the car seems to jerk when it is shifting gears, so is it the transmission or just something else? then when i come to a stop it shifts down kinda hard and then sometimes when i try to drive it wont but then give it gas and it shifts and then goes. could someone please help me

I have three Sebrings,(2) 2002 and (1) 2005. Have found that all three tend to leak by the cooler lines at the radiator (very slight leakage). You have to really keep an eye on the trans fluid level. Use only ATF +4 in these vehicles. If the fluid gets a little low, they tend to slip and/or not downshift promptly. Using the wrong fluid causes all kinds of slipping / shuddering. The transmissions were marginal to begin with and rely heavily on the correct fluid to operate correctly.
Aside from the leakage, have found these cars to be super reliable otherwise.(2.7L and 2.4L)

I've read thru the tranny problems, mine is a little different.

about a week ago, I drove up to station and smelled wires burning from under my hood. I checked it and there was a little smoke comming from the manifold area. Oil leak, sure, but i've never seen my car smoke like that.

Couple other times driving it smelled like wires burning again, i kept on driving and it soon went away. No problems after a coupe times.

Then driving it again one morning, it wouldn't shift out of first gear. Speedometer works. parked it. Drove it again next morning.. won't shift out of first... shut it off.. restarted it, and it began to shift normally.
It's been shifting just fine ever since.

Could it be a wire to the transmission cylinoid or module?

The codes at autozone said there is a short, or problem with module. It don't really tell you what's wrong. Garage cost 78 bucks to do that.

My extended warrenty doesn't cover electrical problems. Damn second market warrantys.

Any clues?

to anyone who is having problems with there trans cuz it keeps slipping before you go and spend aton of money just drain out the trans fluid and only use ATF-4 nothing else, i did that and it started shifting correctly.

I just purchased a 2004 Sebring convertible. It had vibration at low and high speeds. Thinking it may be a separated tire or bent wheel, I replaced all four tires today and had them inspect the wheels, as well as the suspension & alignment. The new tires have made a big difference at high speeds, and some at lower speeds, but there is still a shake at speeds under 50mph. Any suggestions?
I have a 1995 Sebring LXI and my husband is a mechanic. He has changed just about everything on my car. You may want check to make sure your roaters arent't wopped. I've heard that can cause some vibration in your ride. I hope that helps you.

2003 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 65,500 miles I've had my 2003 Crysler Seabring for about 5 years and never had a problem before now. For the past few weeks, when slowing down from 40mph or faster, everytime I get to about 30mph my car begins to jerk. I took it to a trans. shop to have it looked at and they drove it and scanned it. The scan showed no bad codes. Can anyone help me please...

I have a 2002 Seabring with the 2.7 6 cyl and the car shifts hard when I am slowing down from 4th to 3rd. All other gears downshif fine. I have circumvented the problem for the moment by using the "Autostick" feature and not going past 3rd. Any suggestions??

Thank you.

I own a 2001 sebring convertible LX with 107,000 miles on it. I havent had any major problems until this week. It's really cold outside and my transmission handle will shift, but the transmission won't always engage. does this have to do with the cold weather?

1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi
This problem started about beginning of December
When driving the car it would not shift gears
The faster I went to the higher the RPMs went up without shifting
• The diagnostic code that came up on the computer was P1776
mechanic replaced the transmission solenoid pack. When I took the car to other, he replaced the intake sensor and the outtake sensor. Then he told me that the only other thing that he could think of was the transmission control module (TCM). The forums that I have read say that the TCM may need to be either flashed, retrained, new software installed, replaced or all of the above!!!!!!!
•
• When driving and going below 45 mph the car will shift and have no problems coming to a stop and going back up to speeds about 40-45 mph
• When going above 45 mph and coming to a complete stop the car does a “bump stop” and will no longer shift when driving. It goes into “limp mode” and will not get out of 2nd gear.

now when I drive, i will be coming up to an intersection or whatever, and when I slow down and my automatic transmission is shifing down to the lowest gear around 30-35 mph, the transmission will downshift a little rough. It's only between the two lowest gears when down shifting. I don't know what is making this happen, but it worries me. Can anyone give me any input on what might be happening. I need my 2001 chrysler sebring 107,000 miles to last atleast two more years!

I have a 1997 chrysler sebring. It has 276000 km on it. Everything runs great but recently after the snowfalls, the tranny has been whining. I got stuck in the snow and had to be dug outand a lil pushing with me on the gas. The tranny wont go into 2nd gear now and the rpm's go up to 3500 when i hit 60 km. IS there anything that i can do to extend the life? I used lucas oil transmission fix and that helped alot. If i change the filter and flush the tranny and put in a bottle of lucas does my car even have a chance?

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring sedan 4 cyl with 50,000 miles. Never had a problem with the transmission, but was told (after a lube and oil chg) that the trany leaks and needs repair: solenoid pack, oil pan gasket aa d side gasket -$700.
Is this a rebuild? or just a repair?

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring that My Daughter drives, after she got to school she noticed alot of trans fluid underneath it. I had it towed to a friends house thinking that it was maybe just a trans coolant line leaking. But the fluid was comung from where the engine and the trans are bolted together at the bottom until you turn the car off then it comes out fromwhat looks like a vent or drain hole also at the bottom where the engine and trans meet. Please let me know what the problem might be Thanks.

I noticed that a lot of people talk about the problems with the 2001 Sebring Trans and the type of fluid used. My Daughter is off at school and said that her car just stopped. The engine runs and shift changes but not power. I do not know if someone topped off the trans fluid the oil was just changed and they did not say anything. Can this be the problem a shop said that the trans needs to be replace. Please advise what to do.

Hi,
2000 Sebring (6 cyl) recently started leaking a fair amount of tranny fluid. I didn't notice the leak at first, but whenever the car is cold (40 degrees or less), it takes 5 minutes of warming up before the car would engage in any gear. I checked and added fluid, the problem stopped until it was low again (2 days later). Any suggestions? I'll crawl under the car tonight, but unless there's an obviously leaking line or gasket... Am I hosed?
