Chrysler to take over supplier-run Toledo Jeep paint shop

Chrysler Group LLC early next year will take control of the Toledo Assembly complex's Wrangler paint shop operation from Magna International Inc., which has run the paint shop since June, 2006.

The double dripper's that voted for the exclusive 8 yr. contract enabling the supplier park in the first place, did so to secure employment after their retirement from Jeep. They knew they were selling out future employment for the Toledo Area buy doing so, but their only concern at the time was how they could enrich themselves. This is exactly what happens to unions that vote only for their own short term gains. They can't see far enough ahead to envision what lies beyond the fork in the road. They can't see past how harming others can themselves as well. They won't even be entitled to a fourteen dollar an hour job by the time the dust settles now. Just don't expect people to feel sorry for you now. I remember hearing all of the boasting about that contract a few years ago and about how you guys were going to get rich over it by collecting you Jeep pensions and working for the same wages at the supplier park. You should have never agreed to a supplier park in the first place. You nitwits set the precedent for that to happen by not sticking together as a union, but rather as a collective sellouts to your community. You also knew the supplier park would pay everyone else that hired in there half the wages you would make. In the end this is what happens to sellouts.

..You know I should add that I too don't think its right on the double dipping thing, but thats just my opinion. I don't live these peoples lives, or walk in their shoes, but I believe once you retire, or buyout, thats that. Move on and let these young bucks get a chance!!

Again, just my opinion, and "Still Laughing" I should not have been so brass with my earlier comment. Just overly protective of TAC...(Toledo Assembly Complex). I apologize for that.

what are the going to do with current people are they going to buy them out and use lay off people. I can't imagine they are going to kick them out

..good question jeep88. Not knowing all the fine print, its my understanding that it will be a somewhat simple "You no longer qualify" for employment. I can't see why they would buy anyone out. If you signed something that says you can not work for Chrysler, and this really goes back to "in house" so to speak.......Maybe unemployment though.... Who knows.

And yes, its been reported that if needed they will call lay off people first, and if things get going, hire off the street.
Those that have had no relationship with Chrysler and work there will be "re-interviewed" (per Toledo Blade article)for continued employment consideration.

You sound like someone actually had a choice.

There is NO choice as long as someone South of the border or across the ocean is willing to work for $5 a week with no benefits or workmans comp..

With all the mergers and acquisitions going on in the automotive industry these days, few corporate structures have been as tumultuous as that of Fiat. The Italian group was once very centralized, but recently, it split its divisions into quasi-autonomous subsidiaries, then it stepped in and took the reins at Chrysler, and is now it is splitting itself into two distinct groups.

The first is to be known as Fiat SpA, and will encompass the automotive brands, including Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and, of course, Fiat. The second, Fiat Industrial SpA, will presumably include the likes of Iveco, Case New Holland and French motorcoach division Irisbus.(Ferrari's future hangs in the balance as reports alternately confirm and deny plans to sell off parts of the Maranello-based automaker and racing team.)

The de-merger was made in accordance with a shareholder vote on September 16. As a result, both new corporate groups have received new logos to help differentiate one from another, as both will be listed separately on the Milan Stock Exchange. While the move likely won't have any immediate, direct impact on the Chrysler Group, if an official merger is to take place between the Turin and Auburn Hills auto groups, it's likely to encompass the Fiat auto group and leave the industrial group alone. I guess Chrysler is going to go through a third party company as it did in the past and allowing the current people working there to continue employment which will cause a lot of problems international union is in negotiation of what is to be done there

I would rather have made "$28/hour for 10 years than go to 14 then forever have only made 14, ever thing about that?

I just hate this.. Good people affected.. Laid off Jeepers, and those that are currently employed at the supplier park. What a mess!

It was pretty stressful at work yesterday. Lots of people mad about them even talking of letting the double-dippers stay. How can a union explain to it's laid off workers, that they can't work, so someone who signed papers saying they can't work for Jeep ever again can now work and make $7,ooo. plus and month. It is time to do what they said they would do 4 years ago!! The union can not push the blame to the company on this issue. This unit chairman is going to have to do the right thing! They signed papers saying they were cutting all ties with Chrysler and now they need to move on to something else. They took buy out money and pensions. How about everyone who took the buy out? Can they now come back to work? The good thing about the workforce here is we will not let this get swept under the rug!! Dan Henaman works for the WHOLE Jeep unit, not just a special few. The double-dippers have made their money now let our laid off workers have their shot. Hopefully this will all be resolved after the Christmas shutdown and we can let our retiries finally retire and our laid off brothers and sisters get back to work.

If they were to hire them, how does this affect you? They would be tier 2 entry level with day one, it wouldn't effect your job, or seniority. Just saying...

It would affect all the people that are still on lay-off from Chrysler that didn't take the buyout....Thats bullshit!!! Not one 2nd tier person should be hired while there still is laid off workers.

I guess my main problem is that they agreed to the terms of the buyout. They should stick with them. I don't like the idea of them changing the rules for some people. If you signed a piece of paper saying you would take x amount of money and collect a pension and collect a pay check and not work for that company again i think you should stick with it. That is all. I wish them the best. It is time for them to honor the terms of their agreement.

What's the latest word coming from the paint that they are going to keep the current people there I am sure alot people will be getting lawyers having layed off people work while they hire new people is not right. So what's theooking like now
