Bap lost this car cause the newbies can not build a car right the first time..We had our chance and we blew it with the dart...everyone will find out how important that new car was to bap..with out that car or any new car we will have to cut a shift or possible close plant down and move to detroit...dart sales are slow..we ahould see a couple of weeks off coming up so save all you can cause we are going to be in a rouh situation...word to everyone if you want to keep your job..do your job the right way...

If that's true, its a little disconcerting. It was a mistake trying to launch a brand new car not only from a underpins concept, but from a company wide concept in quality and fit/finish. You have almost two standards types on the line right now. Your trying to integrate new ideals and procedures alongside something that has been done for almost 7 years now. The two cultures and ways of doing things don't mix. You launch a whole new, state of the art body shop (the second one BAP has done during an initial launch) and a huge new option in Paint with the Underbody Coating (UBC) bottle neck. You couple that with the fact that the line workers are supposed to use the suggestions and kiazons to help implement change, but when you use them it takes months if at all to be addressed. Anyone seen the 6 little silver patch's in the rear seat area in TCF....there has been a kiazon on those for months....still not fixed.

I think things are starting to change, on the management side and union side for the new way Fiat wants things done. But its going to take a rework of how the whole system works from out suppliers to in the plant to make the way Fiat wants this run to work. If its true that we wont get the car, its not because of lack of the workforce trying. It was because the workforce was placed in an almost no win situation. You launch a car with a completely different way of doing things from the past, implement two brand new subsystems into the plant, and hire 2/3's of the workforce off the street and have very little time to train them all, this is what you get.

Bottom line is that they did two things wrong. A they should have waited to launch the car when they had the automatic trans ready instead of launching in all manual. And B they should have waited to launch the C shift to see how the sales were going to do.

The dart is a neon but worse. It's a neon trying to be a ford focus. Very sad attempt.

The plant isn't full of contractors reworking the conveyors and painters repainting everything so the plant can be closed down...

Should sales of the Dart be lower than hoped for, another vehicle to provide flexibility in keeping the plant at maximum production is exactly what is desired. After the PF, it's the UT.

How many cars or what cars a plant builds doesn't matter as long as the line runs. OK so what if the Dart isn't selling well RIGHT NOW, it may pick up in the future. Patriot/Compass/100 production can be adjusted and every other way too.

Right now, the line is running. That is all that matters.

Im a floater in north body and last saturday I worked in the area where the Dart gets its doors, fenders, hood and decklid.
At the end of the day saturday the supervisor told us that we are gonna see some changes to the area when we get back from X-mas break and was pointing out where some new cages are gonna be but he didnt say anything about a new hatchback model.
But, being that this is the area where the decklid goes on, Im just gonna assume that they are reworking the area for the Hatchback?

It's this simple Dart, 100 whatever Chrysler/Fiat needs BAP, SHAP and TNP. They do not have the capacity to shut any of those three plants down. It will not be profitable to build 100% production of a high volume car in Italy and ship them to the US. BAP will get more than 1 or 2 cars I bet BAP will be crancking out 4-5 cars by 2015, same with SHAP.
