I'm wondering about this plant. Is it still open with Chrysler workers or being sold? It looks like Chrysler plans on using it but will we own it? Pasting articles below:

from allpar.com :
**This plant was a sort of joint venture, with ZF running the plant but using Chrysler UAW people and having Chrysler as their primary customer. We were told in February 2009:
The core team has reportedly been placed back at Detroit Axle Plant until some definitive plans have been made between ZF and Chrysler LLC. The plans (currently) are for the Core Launch Team to return to MAP (Marysville Axle Plant) by the beginning of summer. There was a discrepancy as to who was going to pay for the MAP hourly people, and since ZF wouldn't commit just yet they had to come back as Chrysler was going to continue footing the bill. Currently the story is that 200 hourly people will be hired from Chrysler as the volume committment is not there as originally planned.
The Marysville plant is still under construction and will take over production from the current axle plant.**

from Chrysler (plant closings)
**Detroit Axle: All required work will be moved to a new facility that is being developed in nearby Marysville, Mich. The plant will be idled in December 2010.**

I drive by the plant all the time. It is a huge plant it looks bigger than Lynch Rd plant. It looks 100% done on the outside but I have know idea on the inside. There are alot of contractor trucks parked outside so they must be installing equipment. There is no signs other than No Trespassing signs. In my opinion they need this plant bad it will be finished and stocked with chrysler people but just how many people is the question. It was reported that Chrysler AND ZF people will be working there. Heres a cool link to a live video camera of the plant. pretty cool!http://www.marysvilleaxle plant.com/

well, that was a cool link!

So... is this the plant that people could be forced into from other labor markets? Just trying to figure out what is going on as there are tons of rumors here in Kokomo that low seniority will be forced to Detroit.

A friend of a friend is saying letters will go out this week 'offering' Detroit, Belvedere & St. Louis (don't know if this is North or South) but so far I haven't heard of anyone getting one.

Is Detroit(Axle?) the only plant in the Labor Market there? Or are other plants included?

Thanks to anyone that could make this murkiness a little clearer - lol :)

If I remember right,(someone correct if I'm wrong)the Marysville Plant is supposed to replace Detroit Axle, and is supposed to be a non-core facility(tier2)per 2007 national bargaining agreement.

yes it will be a non core plant but no one from the outside labor markets will go there because so many people from Lynch Road (Detroit Axle) will be laid off when they transfer operations to Marysville. The other plants in the Detroit market are Jefferson Assy., Warren Truck, Shap, the two stamping plants, Mack Engines, Trenton engine, Mopar, Marysville parts dist., Conner Assy.(if they keep it), Marysville axle, Mount Elliot Tool and Die and the Tech Center.

Thanks Shapman! This makes it even harder for me to believe they'd be shipping Kokomo people to Detroit! Just my opinion, I think they are using scare tactics to get people to move or take the buyout - which according to several union officials here - you can still go to HR and VTEP out.

I hope you are right but if you read the rest of the post it lists a boatload of other Detroit plants that may still need people in them. I hope we hear some Kokomo numbers soon so we can stop worrying.

The Detroit plants will need alot of people. Jefferson will be building the Grand Cherokee, Durango and an Alfa SUV so a secound shift is a sure thing Warren Truck taking on SLNP production will need people and Shap will need people. I still think shap might....might get the 200c our plant is picked clean of people and then all the support plants will need people. I heard the Detroit market lost about 3000 people in the buyouts. I just don't know how we are going to run next monday.

Do you know of anyone in your labor market that IS NOT being called back? Do you have any ideas how many (or how few) Detroit can get by with? We are hearing alot about derating here in Kokomo so even with all the buy-outs there will still be poeple off. I think even some of the people that they call back now will end up layed off later.

if all remains the same, and that's a big if most plants in detroit area will have a hard time running due to manpower. for example: shap will be at least minus 200 next mon. jnap will be ok because they still have a surplus of laid off people. wtap will be at least minus 200. they may slow line speed, rotate people... who knows? one thing is for sure these next few weeks are going to be interesting.

I don't know how many people will not be called back. I think Shap needs about 900 to run one shift including trades and about 547 took the buyout. I just don't know how they plan to run. I do know laid-off skill trades are being put on the line as production people. I also heard Fiat wants all the lines to be slowed down to improve quality, so I guess some jobs will be combined. But how many people we need or are still on "no call back" I would just be guessing....sorry.

Shapman, I believe that 500 number is the TOTAL that took the buyout this year, NOT who took it since May 1st. I heard we lost maybe another 200 since then. I know of a some SHAP people (06 and 07 seniority) that still haven't been called back yet. Not sure where that leaves the "out of market" workers, but we do not have 500 openings.

There were approx. 200 people who took $ in may. I was brought back in @ end of May. Virtually all of the workforce has been recalled or has been absorded somewhere else. For example, low senoirity folks are being bumped from Mopar into WTP or SHAP on MON. There still is huge shotage!

The new Marysville plant is not bigger than the Lynch road plant. It is only less than 3/4 the size.
