A/C problems

The large hose you mentioned has a nationwide recall on same(I was told) due to fluid leakage problems, similar to what you had described. Problem was identified as a poor crimp where the hose mates with the metal collars at both ends of the hose.

Wow real surprised to see all these pt cruiser A/C faults, I have a 2005 2.4 Turbo, last week the A/C stopped, took to a decent guy who checked the system and could not find a leak, he recharge the system, all was great worked cold for 1 day, the back to warm, took it back again last Friday July 24th, this time we put in some dye, it stayed cold until today July 27th and has gone warm again.
I had a look under the hood and notice a split in the large rubber covered braded A/C hose near the timing cover and Power steering reservoir and some oil speck on the timing cover but could not see any dye, I'm taking it in again tomorrow to see what we can do, but from what I read it's pure luck if it gets sorted!

My A/C went out and the quote I got to repair it is $700+. Seems whatever the problem is requires the entire dash and steering wheel to come off to reach.
Not likeing this.
Did you get the AC problem fixed? I have the same problem but not being told what the problem is except that the dash has to be taken apart.
Thank you

I have a 2007 Cruiser with 61,000 MILES and had rhe same problem. It is a 23.00 fix from autozone. You want to replace the low pressure switch on tbe accumulator. This stops ths compressor from constantly going and freezing up the lines thus causing the vents to close up as coils beging to freez and clog up. The switch properly causes the compressor to cycle on and off. Failire to replace the switch will cause the compressor to blow. You need a 5/8 inch i believe open end wrench. And fice minutes of time. Do it when the engine is cold. Take care in threading the new one over tbe existing gasket and carefully tighten.

Where is the relay for the low speed a/c fan in an 06 PT cruiser? It's not with the fuses.

I have a 03 pt cruiser every time Freon is put in it blows right out the pressure relief valve. Someone said it sounds like a blockage causing the head pressure to be too high. Any ideas where the blockage could be?

Same problem here. I'm no mechanic, but car saavy. I've ran a vacuum, and there aren't any leaks. Just can't pin point this one.

06 pt non turbo base model. I hook up the gauge from the recharge kit without the bottle of refrig. Straight to the redzone it went.. kit says do not add any more freon. Take it to a professional. So what am I in for? Sounds like big bucks or is it the compressor?

been around and back with a 2005 base model. I replaced the compressor without needing to. The fan is the first culprit on this model and rarel detected. Then the new compressor went out six months later just passed warranty lol.

I have learned to just let people install the A/C for you instead of trying to do it yourself. I always end up running into problems if I try and do it myself. I know that if I get it done by professionals, I don't have to worry about getting fixed so soon. http://www.alpineheating-air.com/hvac-install...

I have a PT Cruiser 2003 and the Compressor seems to be cycling on and off, but when I am driving in a highway it is fine. The problem is when I stop in a light, or a stop sign. It is continuously on and off (3 sec on, and 8 sec off). Also, when it turns on the revolutions go down, when it turns off it go to normal.
I bought freon, and it was a little bit down 45 psi, so I put some freon in, but as the system was on and off the pressure began to vary. When it was up (150 psi), then down to 48 psi I stopped.
Why I should do? I was at two mechanics, one of them told me that the problem is the expansion valve, and the second one told me that it is some electrical problem, some one could help me to solve my problem?
Thanks
If you find a solution please post I have the exact same problem ! Been driving without air for 2 summers because no one knows whats causing this problem.

I have a 2003 PT cruiser and over the last five months I've spent 1800 on it it's got a new compressor a new dryer I knew switch a new evaporator and a new heater coil and still after driving half an hour to 40 minutes instead of 50° air coming out of the vents I'm getting 7580° air coming out of the vents I don't know what to do I was thinking maybe it's the low pressure switch on top of The silver canister by the firewall any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

For what it is worth...the big hose that (top one) that goes from the Accumulator to the compressor is subject to leak where the Rubber meets the metal tubing...Probably starts really slow so is missed the first time around. Also the bearing on the compressor pulley likes to take a nose dive..that usually comes with a strange whine/rumble first noticed at start up. Drive very long and it ruins clutch. Also there are 2 pressure switches Low side on the compressor and one on Accumulator check these .
