I began having a problem with the fog lights coming on by themselves and not going off back in December. Until then, I wasn't aware I HAD fog lights. Now, they have drained my battery, and I need a new multi function switch. Any word that Chrysler might issue a recall for this problem?

I have the same problem with the fog lights on my 2001 LE. Started in April after 60,000 miles. It is the switch on the turn signal stalk. Heat definitely plays a role. When the interior of the car is hot, or the sun is shining directly on the stalk, the problem gets worse. Plus there is the heat generated by the current running through the circuit. I pulled the fuse. This car has been exceptionally reliable for a PT Cruiser and is the first problem of any consequence I've had.

Just had this same thing happen today. Pulled the fuse. I also just had new tie rods installed at 68000 miles.

I just paid over $200.00 to replace the multifunction switch on my 2002 PT Cruiser which has 35,000 miles. The switch would engage by itself and the emergency light would come on and keep flashing. On two occassions I shut the door and the switch came on and drained the battery. The service manager wanted to tell me about his Toyota's o2 sensors--give me a break!!!!

I two am having the same problem. I have had my 2001 PT for almost 2 weeks now. I am loving every minute of it, however I have noticed that my fog lights are also not working. My boyfriend searched for the problem yesterday and figured that it's the mfs. I'm glad my boyfriend came across this site. I'm now concerned weather it's worth it to fix, or if I fix it, will it cost me more problems down the road.
I'm dissapointed that Chrysler won't step up and take care of their customers. If anyone wants to start a petition or something of the like, please e-mail me at Jcblu78@hotmail.com. I would be more than happy to try and get something done about this problem.

I bought a 2002 PT Cruiser in April. 1 Day after the 30 day warranty expired, the fog light started staying on. I discovered the left turn trick and the pressure trick. Unfortunately one night on the way home from work, the pressure didn't work anymore, and sure enough when I turned it off, the fog lights wouldn't go out. I got out the manual and pulled the fuse. This is the first time I've looked for a chat site for PT Cruisers and lo and behold a lot of people are having the same problem.

Initially we noticed the fog lights were staying on because the car battery was dead on more than one occasion. We thought the problem had rectified itself after a few weeks but then towards the end of a very long road trip the steering column caught on fire due to a faulty multi function switch. We removed the fuse for the fog lights and took the car to a dealership. My friend came over tonight and described the exact same problem in another PT. I think that this forum should be forwarded to Chrysler.

My 2003 PT Cruiser's fog lights are coming on by themselves after we turn and even after the car is off! My Aunt complained of problems with her PT....gave her a call...she had the very same problem! This is crap! I am going to call Chrysler ASAP and see what they say. OBVIOUSLY, this IS a defect! What kind of company won't stand behind their product and take care of this problem?!

Count me in too....my 2001 LE has the fog lights come on whenever I switch the level to right-turn.

I think we could all post this issue as a complaint on the
NHTSA web site....www.nhtsa.dot.gov

I check recalls and tsbs...found nothing.

Under complaints, I found several under FOG LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS and TURN SIGNAL, but found seven under FOG LIGHT SWITCH....all listing the same issue.

Should we all post complaints.....it could make a difference?

Couldn't you mount a switch in the interior, run some wires thru an existing hole in the firewall, and splice the switch/switches into the circuit.

...or is more than the fog lamps on this circuit?

Same problem with my 2001 PT. NTB fixed it for $118.00. Much better than my dealership. The warranties are all up and I will never take it back to the dealer again.

Same problem here with 2002 PT Cruiser with fog lights that turn themselves on when it is exposed to extreme heat. They will stay off all night, but in the heat of the day at some point they turn themselves on. My guess is that if you shaved down the black plastic (black plastic has a tendency to expand at high temperatures) a tad this would stop happening. I will try this this week and post results.

I have a 2002 PT and we have been battling a starting problem since we bought the car (used) in August last year. Out of the blue the car doesn't start. We had the charging system checked three times and all okay. No problem with battery either. Just yesterday we noticed the FOG LIGHTS were on when the car was not running. This intermittent starting problem has driven us CRAZY for a year! Now I think we may have found the problem! I am going to contact our dealer to find out what they can do about it. Anybody have any luck with contacting Chrysler?? So glad I found this website. Thanks

Definitely caused by heat. We had no problems with dead battery for 6-7 months (winter/fall). As soon as the hot weather started the problem came back. Didn't ever notice the fog lights on until this week. Also need to replace tie rods, 53K miles. Called one dealer locally and he said he had one customer about a month ago come in because fog lights came on without manually turning on. Not sure if Chrysler is going to do anything about this, but if there is a chance of a fire, they better start looking into it. I am going to email Chrysler with problem, hope some of you do the same.

I am the original owner of a 2002 PT with 65,000 miles on it....having the same problem. I will pull the fuse rather than give Chrysler $200.

I'm with you Jago. I'm keeping my money and pulling the plug, so to speak. I can't believe that we were too moronic to think of the fuse solution. We were just lucky that my husband noticed the fog lights were on the first time it happened.
I will be contacting my dealer, just to ask them how much and whether they've heard of the problem (see how truthful they are).
Now anyone have a radio problem...? The fuse is going on that too. We aren't going to have any left at the rate we're going!

I own a 2001 PT Cruiser and I have the fog lamp problem also. I have owned it since new and have 66,000 miles on it and the problem has been going for about a year. Originally they just came on when the right turn signal was used, then this week they started to stay on all the time I pulled the fuse to correct the problem. no fog lamps are no big deal, I've never used them.
