2006 PT cruiser, 70,000 kilometers. At random car will not start, only clicks when key is turned. Swapped starter relay, changed fuses, tapped on starter, car still will not start. If I leave it & try later it may start in 5 min or 5 hours. Taking to dealer tomorrow, this is obviously a defect with these cars & Chrysler should own up to it. The starter system wires are too light in my opinion and the wiring has not been routed properly causing rubbing and shorts.

Same problem(s) here. My 2008 has crapped out on me 4 times in the last year, and I have changed the Starter, the Alternator and now the CPU for the second time. What a piece of #%*! This Car is. I can't afford a new Car that is why I bought this. car in the first place. This is definitely going to send me anywhere else but Chrysler when I am ready for a new vehicle.

Do you have a part number for the harness you installed or a specific name
Rhonda M wrote:
I forgot to come back and say my car has been great for months. Eversince the wire harness was fixed. I had an isolated no start some months after the repair, but I think my son left the lights on. The car is doing well. I hope things work out for everyone else. Replacing the wire harness was my solution.

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. I took a 50 mile trip a few days ago and the following day I went to get my kids food from a local restaurant. When I got in the car to leave I started the car and.... NOTHING! It wouldn't start. All it would do is try to click over. After 2 hot shots in the parking lot I made it home to where my brother cleaned the access battery acid off the battery and checked the terminals. Added water to battery and everything seemed fine. This morning though when trying to leave.. ironically to give a hot shot to someone my car needed one first! It wouldn't start again without a hot shot. So 3 theories it could be... Battery, Terminal, or needing to a new alternator. Has anyone else tried a new alternator for this problem?

I had the same problem in my 2004 Classic. Replaced starter motor, solenoid, several batteries but problem remained. Intermittent fault - starter just clicked when ignition turned on, or very slow, laborious cranking of the engine. Auto electrician eventually diagnosed that the positive lead from the battery to the starter is too small in diameter for the current it has to take. The lead heats up, causing too much electrical resistance. He fitted a much thicker lead, and then connected a thicker new negative lead from the battery direct to the engine block to improve the circuit conductivity. Now works fine, starts every time on a half-turn of the starter. Magic! Very simple and very cheap solution.

Check the clutch inerlock switch - it's high up under the clutch pedal and will prevent the starter from engaging

Wow. Has Chrysler owned up to any of this yet? I am also sitting with my dead cruiser in the driveway and glad that I found this. I have replaced the cam sensor and the crank sensor to try to fix my bucking problem to no avail and now the car won't start. I had the fog fuse problem and pulled that years ago. The dealerships prices are ridiculous and the problems seem to be unlimited. I don't have the money to keep dumping into the car without the solution being fixed. What is Chrysler saying?

I bought a 2004 pt cruiser in March. Because I have no credit and I'm a single mother I had to go thu JD Byrider. High interest. I have had nothing but issues with this car. It idles real low like its going to die at stop signs. Dealer said typical for that car. Had another issue arise with a screeching noise as if it was the break pad indicator. Back to the dealer said they just put new pads on not quite sure what they did but it stopped for awhile. Month later sound came back with a whining noise. Back to the dealer again changed the wheel bearing screeching stopped for about 4 days. Now the car is screeching again low whinning sound still idling very low and while running in park the battery light comes on. My boyfriend checked everything out and there is oil in the air filter an the box.. I bought this car thinking it was going to be a good dependable family car. I hate it and am stuck paying for it. Not to mention when u work 12 hr swing shift and wasting what time I have off to go to mechanic. Chrysler should be ashamed. Can anyone give me input on any of these issues???? Desperate for resolution. My time is limited and so are funds.

Chrysler. Should recall their pt crushers editions . This model is cheaper than mass produced Chinese toys to third world countries without quality control . I regret buying one.

I just bought a used 2001 PT Cruiser Oct. 31, 2013. Last night I went shopping, while I was driving the radio went off. The car started to lose power, then the radio came back on. I parked the car and went shopping. When I came out, it restarted, but the Air Bag light stayed on. Then the radio went off, again, and stayed off. The headlights got dim so I checked the windshield wipers and they ran really slow. When I pulled in the driveway the whole car went completely dead. I havenít tried to start is or jump it, yet today. Do you know what the problem could be?
The car has 88,000 miles. I have had no other problems. There were three recalls done recently, but I don't know what they were. A belt has been squealing, for the first minute or two, for about three days.

I have an issue with my 2002 PT no crank no start, there are no codes. Battery is strong, bench tested the starter it functions properly, when the key is turned there is no sound other than the fuel pump engaging. Has anyone experienced this issue?
