My cruiser does the same thing from time to time. I sit and wait a few minuites and it usually starts up. It goes completely dead. I make sure the slifting handle is in the right place..I change from gear to gear and than reinsert the key. make sure the doors are shut..one time this happened in Disney parking lot and it was dead..turned out the back door was ajar and until I shut the door properly it would not turn over. It is a pain when it does this but I can get it to start up within 10 minuites.

My last posting eas March 26 and guess what? My 02 cruiser is at a chrysler dealership right now. Been there for 3 days and the mechanic there does not kow what the problem is. Says it may be in the wiring not sure. My cruiser had 2 small lights on the hood when I purchased it and that could be the problem. Anyway I miss my cruiser and I am going crazy waiting.

See blogs re. fog lights. Have them check out multi-function switch in the turn indicator stalk. You may not be seeing the fog lights on in the daytime and it may be draining your battery.

I have a 2003 pt cruiser with a battery problem, but do not have fog lights. The problem sounds the same as the fog light problem. Everything is fine and then you go out to start the car and it is dead. Have had the car 2 1/2 years and 3 batteries. No one seems to be able to find the problem. Have had the alternator checked several times and someone even did the jump across the starter solenoid and it started just fine but they said the starter solenoid was shot and we replaced the starter ( solenoid not sold seperately). I make sure that EVERYthing is turned off before getting out of the car (dome light, radio, fan for heater) and the car still occasionally won't start. Help!!!! I have a haunted car.

Have you been able to get a sure or longterm fix for your cruiser! Mine started doing the same thing and have now been through 3 batteries and a new starter with not change.

Geez, this does not give me much faith. My Cruiser died this morning at a gas station. Was working fine and then, nothing. Won't turn over. The electrical is going haywire too, lights coming on, then not, power locks working one second, not the next. Having it towed to a battery place now, at the suggestion of the dealership.
Sounds like this is an 02 problem that should be covered, but alas, she went out of warrenty long ago.

I have the same problem with my 2003 cruiser. It won't start at times. If I don't start it everyday then it won't start. I replace the battery several times. I got a new starter and a new altenator. Still the car won't start. I also had the wire harness replaced on it because I had smoke come out from the steering colmn. What could be wrong with mine?

I also have a 02 Touring edition PT with starting problems. Took it to the dealership multiple times and they can't find the problem. I had the starter replaced, ignition switch and battery. This has been going on for 1 year now (07/06 - current)

Turn the key and all electrical items work (radio, windows, instument panel lights up, etc) but the starter won't turn over. Let it sit for awhile and it starts.

I can never duplicate for the mechanic so I video taped it last time it happen and took it to the mechanic. They are stumped as well until they can replicate the problem. They have had it for another week.

Picked up the car today after the dealership had it for 16 days. Problem cannot be found. Here is what they checked..no charge by the way.

1. Performed DRB3 diag. Found code EATX message not received. Reset all DTC’s and performed system test. The EATX message that was displayed indicates a possible problem with the instrument cluster but shop foreman does not believe this is the cause.(does not want to replace due to cost and special order unless positive this is the issue)
2. Performed numerous starts to ignition system. System did not fail once. Test drove vehicle numerous times, problem did not occur after test drives.
3. Check electrical connections at neutral safety switch-OK.
4. Checked for TSB’s-no help. No TSB’s available at this time.
5. Performed powertrain control module test-OK
6. Check shifter cable assy-OK

Recommends (unfortunately) that I continue to drive until problem becomes more frequent.

Note: the dealership did have a problem with another PT that would shut off while driving. Replaced instrument cluster, resolved. It was under warranty.

My sister bought a PT and its having that problem where she will be driving and all of a sudden the guages and lights go crazy and then sometimes (this is the worst) the car will just shut-off while driving. The dealer cant replicate the problem and wont fix it. We are so worried as my sister and nephew are driving in a very unsafe car. Can someone throw me some tips. Also Dan in Florida, can you please send me the info as to the dealership you went to? It sounds like the solution at the end of your message might help us, and having the dealers info would be great to have so we can call them and get the solution. Please email me the info at jam8681@aol.com. Thanks!!!!

I had problems starting, they replaced the starter, twice and it still had problems. Found out the wiring to the starter was no good, the positive feed or something, burned out due to excessive draw, have it checked.

My car would start fine then the next time nothing. 1 in a 100 starts would be a dud. They replaced the starter, a year later another starter, 3 months later still having problems. Took it to a different dealer and it was the wiring, excessive draw burned out the positive feed and they replaced both the starter and the wiring. NO charge! Think there is a problem Chrysler knows about and isnt' saying????????

Pt cruiser shuts off while driving.(Problem solved)Fuel injectors clogged up. Take to shop or buy bottle throttle spray (not just carpuretor spray) Go to link below to see what to do to fix your on car. http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/produ... Do not over spray, can hurt motor. If you don't know whatyour doing take to shop! Good luck hope this helps someone!

I have a 2000 and have just replaced another battery - 3rd time. This one only lasted a year and I have gotten it from the dealership. What is making the batteries die so quickly? I do have a satelite radio - would that do it? Also I have twice had the car not start and 1/2 hour later it started!
