What's up with the very poorly designed bumpers (yr 2002)? The finish has, what appears to be, "tape-like" lines. Has Chrysler admitted to this obvious defect in design? Has anyone been successful in getting them to pony-up replacements?

Check other forums on the web. This problem is endemic. Chrysler should post a recall or at least offer to r&r bumpers to customers who complain.

As everyone knows, the PT was/is made in Mexico.
These tape lines are from covers that were taped over the bumpers for 'protection' while being shipped. Mine has them and when I first bought the car, I thought someone had taped them off for body work until I saw several in the parking lots just the same. The glue in the tape had some chemical reaction to the material of the bumper.
Solution: Take em off and repaint them, easy and cheap and looks real nice. But, Chrysler should have replaced them.

has anyone had their bumpers "melt"?? our bumpers have literally melted to expose the styrafoam underneath..finally had them replaced (along with driver side mirror...which "melted" into itself to the point of falling off. Now the new one has started after 2 weeks........also have the tape lines and waves on back bumper. This is the weirdest thing.........they keep trying to blame us..but we can't figure it out.....no possible reason..garaged..no heat source etc.

Mine has the hideous tape lines onit too,i really really hate them.I have soaked the bumpeers with that slimy tire dressing and it helps for a while but they re-appear every time.I would eventually like to get them painted or find some sort of cover that mounts on them .It is definitley an eyesore for sho !!!!
