I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE SPOILER IN THE BACK. IT IS PLACED TOO HIGH AND INTERFER WITH MY SEING CLEARLY.
THE SHOCKS ABSORBERS ARE WEAKS AND YOU CAN FELL ANY BUMPS ON THE ROAD.
IT DOES NOT COME WITH RAILGUARDS AND I THINK ITS A MISTAKE.
HOWEVER IT DRIVES WELL

I bought my blue streak metallic Pontiac G5 GT a few weeks ago in Woodbridge, VA. I have been a Pontiac fan for almost 20 years, starting with the 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix, followed by the 1992 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, then another Pontiac Grand Prix GTP in 1997. This new G5 is a small car that's good on gas and a blast to drive. I'm getting 25-27 MPG (auto trans) in mostly work traffic (northern Virginia has been a tough commute that isn't getting any better), where my Pontiac Grand Prix GTP was getting 20 MPG for the same commute. The ride isn't harsh at all. The wing in the back doesn't bother me, as this is something you need to accept when you want the good looks of such a device. I have the 17" wheels and the Pirelli tires really grip. My only upgrade so far is replacing that long antenna with a short rubber one (needed the whole mount, so it was $100 installed).
One question I have is regarding oil changes. The owner's manual says nothing about the steps necessary to do this job, and I learned at the auto parts store that the 2.4L engine has an oil canister assembly (you buy a filter insert). Has anybody done an oil change yet? Do you make a mess taking off the oil filter can, and is it a pain to replace the filter element?
ya im 15 its just as any oil change turn the cap off the oil filter, let it drain, then remove it till you seee the insert, replace it put the capp back on its its just like a reg. oil change

the spoiler is not too high ... you are too short!
the car is supposed to look sporty not like a station wagon wit plastic all over the side. Don't park like an idiot and you will be fine.
as for the suspension ... it is a fe3 suspension and you are supposed to feel the road like with any sport tuned suspension.

Hey im trying to locate one of the high wings that you can apparently get with the g5. I have a white g5 gt fully loaded but without that wing, the dealerships were seeming as if they had no idea where they could find one and i have never seen anyone with one on their car.....any suggestions?

My White G5 GT is pretty great. i am searching however to find the high wing that pontiac offers but its practically impossible to find but i think once i get that the car will look amazing, also it would look great with alittle tint on the windows. i have to say this car in white looks phenomenal, the GM white is soo bright and really looks nice. I also agree with the people who said it is hard to see out the rear window, that is definately true, the car goes up in the back so it is very hard to see. Also ive only had the car 2 months and when i had the AC on consdensation started dripping all over and now the radio just stopped working...so assuming they fix that issue, the pontiac g5 gt was a great choice.

yeah i didnt hear alot of stink about the g5's. i might have gone for the g5 instead of the cobalt too, because i am definitely a pontiac enthusiast, my last car was a grand am gt. anyways, i was wondering if it has alot of the same problems as the cobalt? if not the i might just trade mine in or something because the trouble is just getting rediculous!!!
What kind of trouble? Mine seems to keep shutting down. Maybe the ipod is messing with the computer??? Only has 700 miles on it

I have a yellow Pontiac G5 GT with the high wing spoiler, sunroof, high performance air intake, and 18" wheels. I love this car! To anybody thinking about getting a sporty 4 cylinder with 173 horsepower and great pick-up and handling, GET THIS CAR! Not in yellow of corse or with the high wing.. or else I'm not too unique anymore. But, this car handles like a dream!

And just a comment on Robert, you can't burn out too easily in a front wheel drive car! I've tried!!

And as for ever thinking about a Cobalt over the G5, I'm sorry but I'm a Pontiac girl. The Chevy Cobalt front end is too much like an Aveo or any other typical Chevy vehicle. Pontiac knows how to be sporty and DAM does it look HOT! And unfortunately the G5 doesn't come in the GXP but I defenately would have gotten that package if possible!

As for not being able to see out the rear window..... my wing is so0 big all I can see are the cars right behind me and the ones about 15 car lengths behind me.. haha.

And that is all for now.

I'm sorry, the Pontiac isn't a f*&$ing Honda that you have to buy evry piece of ad-ons under the sun to make it look sporty.

yeah but some people want to make it look unique maybe. ad-ons differentiate the standard car, so you don't have the same thing as every other g5 owner. i live right by GM and they're everywhere and all look the same. don't get me wrong, though, i still love them.

Below is a site for an INGEN CAI. Can be converted to a Short Ram as well. I've had mine for a month and I love it. Sounds great! Relatively good price as well.

http://www.turbotechracing.com/productcart/pc...

Can also visit CobaltSS.net for great information on upgrades for both 2.2L and 2.4L GT engine variations. I know, it's a Chevy site, but our cars are practically the same, including the engine. Enjoy.

I'm ordering a G5 GT today, i'm hoping i get the advertized 30+ MPG with a manual tranny. i have been researching buying a new driver and it's the only one that is still inexpencive and looks great with over 32 mpg (rated)
yes a base model civic but only the Si looks good to me, the ion and cobalt = bleh, and i want a coupe so that knocks out anything from ford, nissan, or toyota.
anyone who has had one for a while please let me know what kind of fuel economy you are geting. thanks
I own a 07 G5 bought it when for better fuel milage. I drive round trip 100 mile to work & back. I have a 5 speed manuel transmission. Without the A/c running I have averaged around 34-35 mpg. I live in Texas and now run the A/C and the average has dropped to 33.4 mpg. The car is comfortable to drive and the performance surprised me foe a 4 cylinder. I did get a very good deal from the dealer. The car is loaded all for $13,500.00 it was the last of hhis 07 inventory. My 4x4 Ford F150 now atays parked in the garage. My monthly fuel cost has gone from $1100 per month down to $450. If anything the fuel saving will pay for the G5 and I am not putting high milage on a $50,000 truck. I am very pleased with the car and would recommend it anyone looking for a car that gets great gas fuel mileage.

Hehehehe....I beg to differ! If you have enough torque and know how to drive, you can do a burnout all the way through first and second.

We have a g5 gt also...i know what you mean about the high wing in the back... we too have the chrome door handles and the air intake. besides eating up the gas, it sounds good.. LOL The chrome does get the looks...great minds think alike. And it ticks me off when someone says it's like a Cobolt..the difference is, come on..the Cobolt is a CHEVY..POS
Uhhh...you should know that Pontiac and Chevrolet are both GM products and have the exact same ecotech engines in them.

The cobalt's, the g5's, even the solstice all have the ecotech engine in them, just different sizes of engines.
