We also own a 2005 Chevy Uplander and the doors do the open and retract back to close by themselves. Sometimes the door won't close all the way and stop midway then retract. It has opened while we were driving and we have a 1 1/2 year old and a 3 year old that sit next to the doors. Also I have been crushed by the door that closed on me after I pressed the button to open it. I had to quickly grab my son and move him out of the way as I was getting him out of his car seat. I was pinched between the door and the door jam and had to wait a few seconds until it released me . Thank God my son wasn't hurt. Just the other day we spent over a half hour messing with doors so that we could actually get going. This happens about once a week and sometimes we will spend close to an hour trying to close the doors. The other problem is when the doors do close they won't open! We have to manually open the doors because the doors won't open when we press any of the buttons. This happens about 2 times a month and we have owned it since 2005 so imagine how many times this happened. This has been a serious safety issue for our children.

I agree with the doors problem. In my van the doors opened and closed whenever they want and sometimes is a problem to leave the van in a parking lot because you closed the doors, activate the alarm and when you come back the doors are completely open.

We have also had problems with the two sliding doors on our terraza doing what they want to and when they want to. We also have had the radio, cruise control, tires because of vibration issues, I still think it is bearings. The alternator, the traction control system turning on for no reason, my wife describes a slam or jerk that feels like someone runs into the back of you GM is still working on and last but not least it sometimes will not start which is the worst of the intermitant problems. Oh" I almost forgot about the horn being hard to push, and the fuel pressure regulator

I own a 2005 uplander and have been dealing with sliding door issues forever. My wife will call me at least once or twice a week to say that either the doors will not open or they will not stay closed. Most of the time the alarm will go off and she will have to stop in the road and run both the driver and passenger sliders all the way open and shut them again. This cures the problem 8 out of 10 times, but not always. We have made trips in excess of 45 minutes with the alarm going off the whole time. Talk about annoying. Not to mention the times when you return to the vehicle from the department store only to find one of the doors decided to open itself. I feel it's time for GM to step up to the plate and be held acountable for the product!!!

Joshua, my 05 does the same thing. You cant get rid of the thing because they only offer you 10k for it and mine has 45k miles on it. Guess I will just drive it until it causes a wreck.

Well I know I am not crazy, that is just the way I am treated! I own a 2006 Chevy uplander and six months later started having trouble with the doors opening by themselves, the slider will be open and all other doors locked, also opening while my children are in the car (Ages 2 and 5)and the vehicle is moving. The car was kept for a week in June and then the Month of September '07, I have contacted the NHTSA, Chevy customer service, the dealership, and still no results. I guess child safty is somthing that GM does not consider a priority!

Don't expect GM to do anything for any of you. If they "fix" it once, any other time you take it in they will tell you it is now "normal operation for the vehicle" or "no problem found."
I'm out of warranty now and I am fixing EVERYTHING on this van the way it should have been. Sure, it's money out of my pocket, but it's still less than the $7000 difference between trading it and what I still owe.
Sorry you've all had to have this experience. I tried to start a revolt against GM and these vans and got told by Lawyers and Edmunds it was inappropriate to do so.

NATE~~~~~~~~~~ I actually went to my senator with this there is a law that was put into effect by gerald ford, it states that any warranteed item ($15.00 or more) must be fixed, and if it comes to a vehicle, regardless if it is "under warantee" or not, as long as it was seen and documented before the warranty expired they must fix it at no cost to you, let me know if you would like more information on this, I actually have GM offering my a repurchase deal, however it will be costing me several thousand dollars!

Believe me, we fought with GM and Lawyers for over 2 years about this, and it got us nowhere except more stressed out. All the dealer has to say is "it's normal for the vehicle" and it gets them out of any claim you have. I don't have time to keep running from dealer to dealer (we had it at 6 different dealers) and in and out of the dealer every week. I'm pretty sure our Corporate GM contact was telling us one thing and the dealers another. I'm actually happy I don't have to deal with the warranty any more. I know I can fix it right the first time myself for less money than my time is worth.

wow I have had nothing but trouble with my uplander the right side sliding door mechanism broke twice in 3 months. My door will open instead of closing and it won't recognize that it's closed so it will beep while I drive.Very annoying!! Of coarse I'll call the dealership while it's dinging but when I bring it in it mysteriously doesn't do it. My warranty is coming up this month and I'm looking to get out asap but chevy doesn't offer anything I want.So I've saved my GM points for nothing.

GM STINKS! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I TOO HAVE ALL THE TROUBLES LISTED ABOVE, BUT HAVE TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY IN THIS VEHICLE TO GET OUT FROM UNDER IT. GM HOLDS THE DEALERSHIPS HANDS AND VICE VERSA TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING IS DONE FOR US. I AM DONE WITH GM. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE POWER IN NUMBERS...HOW COME ALL OUR COMPLAINTS DO NOTHING????

2006 Uplander back in the shop again for the 10th time. Still having my lights dim. It sure would be great to have a dependable vehicle to drive consistently. My Uplander is only just over a year old and only has 39,000 km on it. Tried to return the van to chevy, but they claim they are honouring their commitment because they are working on it. Sway bar is fixed, sliding door that popped open while driving seems fixed, still don't know why my locks unlocked and locked by themselves or why my A/C cut out. But I guess I should consider myself lucky that only one thing is going wrong with it this week. Of course, there's always next week to look forward to.

I have a 05 Uplander with over 51,000 miles and just recently the sliding door on the drivers side has begun opening on its own. The first time I fund the door open it was had been sitting in my garage over night. Now the only way I can keep it from opening is to keep it locked all the time, even in the garage. I have an appointment to take it in, but not at all confident it will bes taken care of. Anyone out there have any solutions, my husband is very mechanical.

I have the exact same problem with my lights dimming...my dealership has done nothing. They can not find anything wrong with the lights or the alternator. A friend of mine told me its due to the computers in the car. The alternator and battery are not strong enough to sustain the energy needed. I am at 49,000 miles. And I can not afford to trade in a vehicle that looses value like a barrel over niagra falls. I baught mine fully loaded...leather seats, computers...etc. I would loose close to 10,000 if I traded it in. GM needs to look at the loyal GM owners and take care of them before we jump ship and go elsewere permanently.

I have an 05 relay and just spent 2 hrs waiting for a tow truck b/c the flippin door would not close. This has been going on for a while. I even shelled out $100.00 for my extended warranty deduct for a new dvd player b/c they said a wiring problem in it was causing the problem with the driver side passanger door not closing. I am so sick of them I could choke them all. I pd $30k for this van and I expect it to work, and when it is broken, I expect them to fix it!

Also forgot to mention that my traction control and abs lights come on all the time. Every time I take it in they can't identify the problem.
